As survival at 22 to 25 weeks’ gestation improves, the conversation in neonatology is shifting from “Can these infants survive?” to “What does long-term health look like?” The latest longitudinal research shows that infants born at the limits of viability are reaching childhood, adolescence, and even adulthood in greater numbers, but many continue to face elevated risks across neurodevelopmental, pulmonary, and metabolic domains.
