Especially when you’re calling because you need a fast solution, or you’ve got 300 people coming to an event and just discovered you’re short on something important.

That’s when “customer service” stops being a department name.

Larsen has invested in online ordering and all the convenience that comes with it, but we’ve also held onto something considerably more old-fashioned: people who know our customers, understand the products and can actually help solve a problem.

Except yours may be an entire storage room.

Maybe it's three half-used cases of something nobody likes, the dispenser that only takes one oddly specific refill, or twelve boxes ordered because somebody forgot there were already eight in the back.

Buying supplies sounds pretty straightforward until you start doing the math...

A less expensive trash liner that tears more often, or a paper towel dispenser that encourages people to grab six when two would do. Perhaps a cleaning chemical that requires more product per use, or a glove that gets changed twice as often because it doesn’t hold up.

Price per case only tells part of the story.

Your order was right, it showed up when expected, someone put it where it needed to go, and you got on with running your business.

That’s a pretty good day in our world.

One of the advantages of nearly 50 years in the supply business is knowing the manufacturers, understanding the alternatives and being able to track down products that don’t necessarily appear in an online search.
