Due to the snowfall overnight and this morning some of our customers may experience service disruptions today. Road conditions south of Greenbank are currently too hazardous to put our trucks on the road. We have held two drivers back in the hopes conditions improve. Currently the only significant impacts we expect is to the one south end residential route we have on Tuesday (see map) and some of our commercial businesses in Langley and south toward Clinton. All other routes are running on schedule though there may be isolated areas where we are unable to get into in other areas on the central/north end of the Island. If you experience a service disruption today due to the snow event please put out extras on your next service date equal to your service level. I have been reliably informed that Spring IS coming… Thank you and be safe!

We apologize for the service disruption today. After evaluating road conditions across the Island early this morning we decided to hold our drivers and start routes 3 hours late in the hopes road conditions would improve. Unfortunately, over the course of 2 hours we experienced 4 safety related events. We determined at that time to recall our drivers.

If you did not receive service today please place extras equal to your service level out next week and they will be serviced at no cost.

We are closely monitoring weather conditions tonight and tomorrow as well. Early weather forecasts were not concerning, however current forecast show potential deterioration. We will make every effort to minimize service disruptions where possible.

We apologize for any inconveniences this has caused. Safety is the highest priority for our team and the risks to our drivers and the public was deemed unacceptable. Thank you for your understanding.

Valued customers-

We will be evaluating road conditions tonight and tomorrow morning, due to the potential for freezing rain. If it results in dangerous conditions it may result in service disruptions. If you experience a service disruption tomorrow due to severe weather please place out extra material equal to your service level on your next service date (1/24).

For clarity, the reason(s) for making these difficult decisions during a severe weather event are as follows:

πŸ‘‰ Island Disposal is committed to mitigating safety risks as much as possible while still providing excellent customer service.

πŸ‘‰ The safety of the public and our employees is our top priority. If we put a 50,000 lbs. truck on the roadway in significantly reduced traction environments we are putting everyone at risk. If a passenger vehicle loses control and strikes one of our vehicles the results can be catastrophic to the passenger vehicle.

πŸ‘‰ You value your property and WE value your property! We do not want to risk damaging your property during severe weather events.

πŸ‘‰ We do not want to place our drivers in a position where they cannot meet our high safety expectations.

If we do experience icy road conditions tomorrow please utilize extreme caution when on the roadways. We hope everyone has a safe day!

South end Island Disposal customers, please be advised! The safety of the public and our drivers is our highest priority and a number of roads on the south end will be deemed to risky to operate on today. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Island Disposal would like to thank everyone who took the time to respond to our recent survey regarding a residential curbside recycle program. The response rate was amazing and the feedback was outstanding. There were a variety of excellent questions that were asked and we've done our best to address the majority of these questions with the attached FAQ. Thank you all again and we will keep you updated as we progress in our goal of providing Whidbey residents with this important service.
