Have you ever seen a copepod before?

Phytoplankton are microscopic, plant-like organisms that use sunlight and nutrients to photosynthesize, producing oxygen and forming the foundation of the pond’s food web. Zooplankton are microscopic animals, such as copepods and other small organisms, that feed on phytoplankton and are then eaten by juvenile fish and other aquatic organisms. When nutrients and favorable conditions cause phytoplankton to reproduce rapidly, they can form a phytoplankton bloom, causing the water to become green or cloudy. A healthy bloom provides an important food source for smaller fish which helps support your fish population!
