We are currently under a burn ban.

Parish President Mike Cooper has issued a burn ban throughout St. Tammany Parish due to ongoing drought conditions and a lack of meaningful rainfall.

"The safety of our citizens and their property is the top priority when issuing this burn ban," said President Cooper. "The issuance of this burn ban comes after unanimous recommendation from our fire chiefs and Director of Emergency Preparedness, Clint Ory, who have expressed concerns over our ongoing dry conditions that could increase fire potential. As we saw earlier this year, fires can be quick to start, and take much effort to put under control."

The burn ban will be in place over the course of two weeks, at which point conditions will be reassessed.

St. Tammany Parish urges all residents to refrain from burning and to contact emergency services if you detect smoke or fire in your area.

Today we honor the life and service of Captain Ricky Payne.
Visitation for Captain Payne will be at First Baptist of Covington from 11-1 today.
We will then have a procession that will leave First Baptist around 1:10. The route of the procession is below. Once we get to the fire station at Hwy 21 & 36 we will proceed back to First Baptist on the same route.
WE WOULD LIKE TO ENCOURAGE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO LINE THE ROUTE IN FRONT THEIR BUSINESS TO PAY RESPECTS FOR CAPTAIN PAYNES NEARLY 25 YEARS OF SERVICE.
We would also like to ask for your patience as the Covington Police Department, City of Covington Fire Department, and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office assist with road closures and traffic control along the route to ensure a safe and honorable procession.
Once we are back at the church there will be a service for 2:00.
We ask for prayers of strength and healing today for our members and for Ricky’s family.

Units are currently on scene of a 2 vehicle accident in front of the McDonald’s on Business 190 please use caution if you are in the area.
Business 190 in front of McDonald’s is shut down coming out of the city.

It is with already heavy hearts that the members of FD12 are mourning the loss of another one of our own. Captain Ricky Payne, a nearly 25 year veteran of our department, was called home today.
There are no words that can truly express the pain of losing a brother firefighter.
The fire service is more than a job. It is a family built on trust, sacrifice, courage, and standing together through the hardest moments. Today, we stand together once again.
Please keep our department, the family and loved ones of Captain Payne, and all of our firefighters and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Today we remembered those lost in the 9/11/01 attacks. This morning we had a ceremony at our Station 124/HQ where one of the largest pieces of WTC steel I-beam to leave the greater NYC area is displayed. The local DAR chapter conducted the ceremony and with Chief Stuard placed a wreath on the WTC beam.
Afterwards we joined other first responders at The Retreat at Covington Senior Living Facility for an amazing fried fish lunch!

🚨🚨🚨TRAFFIC ALERT🚨🚨🚨 Today we lay to rest our brother Nikk Hurd. We will have a procession to honor his service at approximately 1:30 pm today we will leave E.J. Fielding and proceed down 21st Ave onto Boston St and to our fire station at Hwy 21&36 and then back to Fielding using the same route. Please use caution and be courteous if you are anywhere in this area today.

It is with profound sadness that the members of St. Tammany Fire District 12 mourn the loss of one of our own, Operator Nikkolas Hurd.
Nikk dedicated his time, energy, and service to our department and to the community we are proud to serve. Beyond his service, Nikk was a friend, a brother, a son, and a valued part of our fire department family.
We are heartbroken by this loss and extend our deepest condolences to Nikk’s family, loved ones, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.
The fire service teaches us to stand together in times of crisis. Today, we ask our community and our members to do the same. Please keep Nikk’s family, friends, and our department family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult loss.
Rest easy, Nikk. We will remember you, we will honor your service, and we will carry you with us.

This morning member of FD12 ran in the annual Never Forget 5k in honor of those lost on 9/11/01. FD12 1976 Mack Ladder truck also displayed the flag and we provided a piece of steel from the World Trade Center at the race.
