Nice job, Oldham County Fire Instructors, conducting a great training exercise on Monday night. Firefighters participated in making multiple entries into an acquired structure with a focus on executing rapid search and rescue drills, along with hose deployment and additional first assignment skills. Thanks to all departments participating.

South Oldham Fire Crews, along with Oldham County EMS and Police, responded to the report of an injury accident at the 17 mile marker of I-71 this morning involving an overturned tandem trailer semi truck. Crews were able to stop a leaking diesel saddle tank and mitigate the scene. The driver was transported by Oldham County EMS for treatment.

The northbound lanes through Oldham County will be impacted throughout the morning hours as cleanup crews remain on scene clearing the wreckage.

SOFD was dispatched to the report of a fire in the area of Floydsburg Road and Cherry Lane yesterday at approximately 3:30 p.m. On arrival, crews reported a detached building fully engulfed.

Special thanks to Pewee Valley and Anchorage Middletown Fire Departments for providing strong mutual aid resources, allowing units to have control of the incident within approximately 20 minutes after arrival.

At approximately 11:37 p.m. last night crews responded to a reported multi vehicle motor vehicle accident just prior to the 14 mile marker. One patient was extricated by South Oldham crews from a vehicle after striking a tree, then allegedly struck again by another vehicle resulting in the subject’s motor being completely dislodged, landing approximately 75 feet down the interstate. The extrication was complex and required an all-hands response.

Both law enforcement and fire crews were also forced to exit their vehicles while approaching the scene in order to coordinate snarled, stopped traffic to access the entrapped patient. It’s important for motorists to have situational awareness regarding emergency vehicle response and life-saving access when traffic stops, particularly on the interstate.

Thanks to all first responders, Kentucky State Highway crews, and dispatchers, who managed the incident with expediency, skill and professionalism.
