Ok, hardworking people...
After spending nearly 6 hours today trying to get answers regarding one of my clients' MOTUS account, this is the summary:
Me: "Can you confirm the filings were submitted and accepted?"
FMCSA: "We can't view that yet."
Me: "Can you confirm the MC activation date?"
FMCSA: "We can't view that yet."
Me: "Can you see if the USDOT number was claimed in MOTUS?"
FMCSA: "We can't view that yet."
Me: "What does the motor carrier need to do?"
FMCSA: "Nothing. They will be contacted."
Me: "Can I get detailed instructions on how to file a biennial update in MOTUS?"
FMCSA: "You can log in and view the option."
Me: "Can I get instructions?"
FMCSA: "There are no instructions yet. That's normal."
At this point, all I can say is:
MOTUS = Migration Of Totally Unfinished Systems™
Keep calm, keep laughing, and keep trucking.

We've survived every FMCSA "improvement" so far. We'll survive this one too.

Within the last few weeks, I have been approached by multiple motor carriers who trusted random filing services or inexperienced consultants to apply for their operating authority.
Unfortunately, many of those applications were submitted incorrectly, resulting in:

• Applying for the wrong authority type
• Paying for unnecessary or duplicate authorities
• Incorrect operation classifications
• Higher insurance costs
• Incorrect insurance requirements
• Delays and costly corrections later

Starting a trucking company is not just about submitting forms — the way your authority is structured from the beginning can directly affect your operations, insurance, compliance requirements, and long-term costs.

Start your authority the right way.

Book a Transportation Safety & Compliance Consultation before applying for operating authority.

NOTICE TO MOTOR CARRIERS REGARDING MOTUS SYSTEM ISSUES

Carriers holding multiple operating authorities - especially HHG + Property/General Freight authorities - may currently experience MOTUS migration/synchronization issues where MC authority, Licensing & Insurance, or insurance filing information is not properly displaying in the new FMCSA system.

From what we are seeing:
• USDOT status may still show ACTIVE
• Insurance may still be ACTIVE
• Authority may still be VALID
• But parts of the Licensing & Insurance data may not be fully syncing in MOTUS yet

FMCSA representatives have acknowledged that certain accounts are still under review during the ongoing system transition.

IMPORTANT:
Do not panic if your authority and insurance were active before the MOTUS transition. Many carriers appear to be experiencing synchronization/display issues rather than actual authority revocations.

If your insurance filings are about to expire - contact your insurance provider to confirm they are able to post federal filings successfully.

Check your MOTUS profile carefully. If you do not see:
• Operating Authority
• BOC-3 Filing
• Insurance Information

under your profile, contact FMCSA via email or live chat.

RECOMMENDED:
• Monitor your MOTUS and SAFER records daily
• Screenshot your Licensing & Insurance pages
• Carry current insurance certificates and MC authority documents in the truck
• Keep proof of active filings from your insurance provider
• Maintain an additional documentation package and print the notification notice to keep in the truck until the issue is resolved.

If you are experiencing MOTUS-related issues or have questions regarding your authority, insurance filings, or compliance status, feel free to contact me.

Stay professional. Stay organized. Keep trucking.

NOTICE TO MOTOR CARRIERS REGARDING MOTUS SYSTEM ISSUES
Some motor carriers are currently experiencing MOTUS migration issues where MC authority, insurance, or licensing information is not fully showing in the new FMCSA system yet.
FMCSA has confirmed this is a known issue and they are actively working on correcting the missing data migration.
IMPORTANT:
• If your authority and insurance were active before - there is likely no immediate cause for concern.
• This appears to be a system migration/display issue, not an automatic revocation.
• Some insurance companies may temporarily experience difficulties submitting filings until the system fully updates.
For carriers currently working with me:
If I did NOT contact you today regarding your authority or insurance records, it means your information appears to be fully migrated and there are no issues currently visible on your account.
Please continue monitoring your MOTUS profile, Licensing & Insurance page, and email notifications.
If you need urgent assistance regarding your authority or insurance filings, please contact FMCSA directly through the MOTUS support/contact page.

From what I am seeing so far in the new MOTUS system, the data migration appears to be partially completed, but not fully finalized yet.
Some carriers already show all updated information correctly, while others still have missing sections - especially under insurance and licensing.
This does not necessarily mean something is wrong with the carrier’s account. It may simply mean the system migration is still catching up.
For now:
• Check your company information carefully
• Review the Licensing & Insurance section
• Make screenshots of what is currently displayed
• Monitor the system for updates as FMCSA continues the transition
Best advice right now: do not panic and do not rush into unnecessary verification steps unless you are certain you are on the official government website.

America’s truckers work closely with USDOT and FMCSA every day to uphold safety and compliance on our nation’s highways. Unfortunately, some bad actors exploit that trusted relationship by masquerading as government agencies and tricking motor carriers into purchasing unnecessary services.

ATA strongly supports the Stop Scamming Truckers Act, which would help put an end to these deceptive and aggressive tactics.

There is no reason to panic about the new Motus registration system.

Right now, the best thing most motor carriers and brokers can do is simply wait for the official public launch. FMCSA is still rolling the system out in phases, and many features are not fully available yet.

If you previously logged into your FMCSA Portal account and verified your information, your data should migrate into the new system automatically.

If you did NOT update or verify your information in the FMCSA Portal, do not panic - you will most likely just go through an additional verification process once the system officially opens to the public.

Most importantly:
• Ignore scam emails and fake “deadlines”
• Do not click suspicious links
• Do not scan your face or driver’s license on unofficial websites
• Only trust information coming directly from official .gov sources

Stay calm, don’t panic, and share this information with fellow truckers, owner-operators, dispatchers and motor carriers so they do not fall for scams or misinformation during the transition.

Most asked question today: “What do I need to do?”

Absolutely nothing right now. Wait for the system to officially go live.

If you logged into your FMCSA Portal account within the last 90 days and verified your information, your data should migrate into the new system automatically. Once registration becomes available, you should be able to claim your USDOT number through the official process.

Also — if you receive emails claiming there is a deadline or urgent action required, carefully check the sender’s email address. If it does NOT end with “.gov” — treat it as suspicious.

• Do not click unknown links
• Do not provide PIN numbers
• Do not provide banking or card information
• Mark suspicious emails as spam and delete them

Unfortunately, scammers are already taking advantage of the confusion surrounding the new system.

Motor carriers and brokers - do not attempt to register your account with the new Motus system just yet.

Currently, the platform is still not fully functional, and operational issues are being reported. FMCSA is expected to issue an official announcement once the system is fully live and ready for motor carriers and brokers to use.

Until then, it is recommended to wait before creating or migrating accounts in order to avoid potential registration problems, incomplete submissions, or account-related issues.

🚨 5 Days Until Legacy System Shutdown 🚨

FMCSA is entering the final phase before the transition to its next-generation registration system.

Beginning Thursday night, May 14, registration update features in URS, the FMCSA Portal, and L&I will be taken offline as part of the modernization process.

Now is the time to review and update your FMCSA Portal information to help ensure a smooth transition.
