Heads up for growers in the Capital Region! This fall, the National Weather Service will end their Frost/Freeze products based on the average date of the first fall freeze (which varies by region, below). Previously, the products had ended only once the first freeze had occurred, regardless of the median date. Be sure to pay attention to local temperature forecasts in order to take protective actions if needed!

According to a 2025 survey from the Pew Research Center, fewer than four in ten Americans said they could ‘explain a high pressure system on a weather map’. Pew surveyed U.S. adults about whether they felt confident performing 12 different tasks, and only 39% of respondents said they definitely or probably could explain high pressure on a weather map. This hurricane season has set records, but not in the way we're used to. September 10, the peak of the season, has passed without a single hurricane yet to form in the Atlantic. This season has set a record for the lowest Atlantic ACE (Accumulated Cyclone Energy) through September 10 since 1950.

What two factors determine a tropical cyclone's ACE?
