Daniel Craig, the actor best known for playing James Bond across five films between 2006 and 2021, has renewed debate over how parents should teach children to handle bullying after a years-old quote of his recommending physical retaliation resurfaced online this week.
The quote, which has circulated widely since at least 2018, has Craig saying: “If your kid is bullying my kid, and my kid has tried to tell your kid to stop, and your kid doesn’t, my kid has been instructed to punch your kid in the face.” The remark is commonly attributed to an interview in which Craig discussed how he and his family approach parenting.
The line has resurfaced repeatedly over the years, most recently drawing fresh attention when actor Channing Tatum shared a screenshot of a news article quoting Craig’s remark on his Instagram Stories, adding his own endorsement of the sentiment. Craig reportedly said in the interview that he teaches his children to defend themselves physically if repeated warnings fail, framing it as a last resort only after a child has already asked the bully to stop.
The comment continues to divide opinion online. Supporters argue that adults and schools too often fail to intervene meaningfully in bullying cases, leaving children to fend for themselves, while critics warn that encouraging kids to fight back can escalate conflicts and run afoul of school zero-tolerance policies that punish both parties involved in a physical altercation, regardless of who struck first.
