🇺🇸 Remembering & Honoring This Memorial Day
Today, we pause to remember and express our deepest gratitude for the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Memorial Day is a sacred day dedicated to honoring a debt we can never fully repay.
🕊️ Did You Know? | The History of Memorial Day
Originally called "Decoration Day" Established in the wake of the Civil War, the holiday began as a way to honor fallen soldiers by decorating their graves with flowers, wreaths, and flags. 🌸🇺🇸
The National Moment of Remembrance: In 2000, a law was passed asking all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3:00 PM local time for one minute of silence to remember and honor those who died in service.
A Symbol of Hope: The red poppy became a symbol of remembrance during World War I, inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields." Today, they represent both the sacrifice of fallen heroes and a hope for peace. 🌺
"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude." — President Harry S. Truman
