Harvest and soil sampling are underway, and the samples we collect are about much more than yield.
We use soil samples to calibrate fall fertilizer applications, making sure we’re applying what the orchard actually needs to optimize for next season. At the same time, we’re collecting almonds from the windrows to evaluate the crop from the outside in. Once cracked, we can assess damage from navel orangeworm and other factors that affect overall kernel quality. Hulls from these samples will also be submitted for boron analysis.
Harvest is the finish line for this crop, but it’s also the starting point for next year’s decisions.
