Great time with my buddy Jeff, he was rolling solo and we had couple days to play around and do a little of this and that. At one point we were surrounded with some huge 150lb p**ns, but with water temps in the 60s they were just hanging deep on the bottom, we only convinced one to come up off the bottom and bite a bait on top. Found some big triple tail on the way back to the snooks and when we got back there really had to grind and make our bites count. You can always count on them turning on at the tide change so we set up in a likely spot and went 1/4 on some hogs landing one 37” but had one well over 40 crash a bait on top and come unglued. Day 2 we stayed in the backcountry and Jeff picked off some beautiful fat reds, trout, and we nailed a big 36 incher at the end of the day. Can’t wait to see him again, he may be able to squeeze a couple days in some time after the new year.

Big snook day with dear friend Russel and my first time fishing with family friend Jeff… We went back into a creek and caught a few small slot reds then went looking for some linesiders. Tons of bites and a handful of big ones to the boat made for a stellar day for my buddies.

Great redfishing with my buddy Lee, and his crew. Super low tide in the morning so we pushed around the marsh found some nice snook, small reds and trout. Tide switched and they caught big overslot redfish till they were blue in the face. Has been some very big fish around because Lee caught a 38” bull, the second big bull we’ve caught on the flats lately.

Special day with some of my best customers and friends RusselI, Hugh, and Sammy. I have been hunting a 40 inch bull red inshore Crystal River for about my whole life. I have personally caught them up to 36 inches in the back country and we get many every year 33-35”. I’ve even had customers catch 37 and 38 inchers but it had been a while since I’ve seen one high 30”s. Well we found a little group of monster reds and all 3 of them hooked up at once. Of course my buddy Hugh would have the lucky hand and tie into the biggest fish in the bunch a 40” bull in no more than 18 inches of water. That fish made the other 2 overslots look puny and the funny thing is we have been hunting him a 40” snook for two years now. We were all blown away for a minute then we went back to catching quite a few more big overs. Once their arms started hurting I switched gears and we drifted a few baits around hoping to get one or two big snook bites, I told Hugh if he got a 40” snook I would jump off the top of my tower.. Lucky for me Sammy was the only one to hook up on a very healthy 37” and we called it a hell of a great day.

Too much fun with one of my favorites, Ms. Susan. She had some new four horseman corks from her friend Aaron to break in so we made a quick drift and popped and jigged up lot of nice keeper trout and quite a few big gators. Tide started to fall so we went looking for our reds and it was safe to say we found them with multiple doubles and I even made her fight a triple on overslots one by one back to the boat. It was a great bite and we called it a day before we could try for a snook because the storms were on our tail.

A little late season fun with a couple of first timers… They were dedicated to the game and after a bit of waiting were able to put a few in the air and one to the hand. We downsized our tackle and ended the day with 2 30 plus inch reds in the sweet water. I know these boys will be back again, and I look forward to that day

Great time with Dave and Pete. These guys wanted to hunt some big ones and we put in the time… super low water made it easy to find them, we caught a few overslot snooks to 36” and a few big reds to 33”. Once tide came in they seemed to spread out and we called it a day. Always fun with these two, a lot of laughs and usually some bent rods..

Has been a busy month since grouper has closed, the seasons have seemed to change and I’ve been focusing on big snook and reds, but still jumping a few p**ns and casting plugs for shallow grouper just for fun. I look forward to the cooler weather and lower tides, aside from tarpon fishing it’s my favorite time of the year… my customers are in for some fun true light tackle fishing the next several months..

Still plenty of big bruiser redfish around, they have been keeping us busy since grouper season closed. They should stay around until we get one or two real cold fronts then the big ones will push back offshore.. Have had a ton of cobia around as well has been nice to see. My mosquito lagoon boys caught redfish till we lost count then went looking for some snooks, we had a few hook ups but Mike wound up ending the day with a nice 60lb p**n to the hand. Hopefully these guys turn into some of my “regulars” and I’m able to show them a little bit of everything I love to do.

An epic end to our short lived grouper season with the durastress crew. I had Mike, Dan and Scott and the boys dropped the hammer on some brutes. We caught 5 over 30” and after putting a fine limit together I dropped down right before we headed in and caught my PB gag a 35 inch 22lber. That fish worked me, she ran about 40 feet of locked drag and I thought I must have hooked the big lemon shark we saw earlier, then it stopped and she had me in the rock. I knew then it was a real one so I loosened up and as soon as she move I gave her everything I had till she was up on the surface. I have caught some fish about that long out in the middle grounds but never such a thick heavy fish. We were talking about my old pal Dan Clymer earlier in the day how he was the king and put the shallow grouper fishing on the map along our coast. I know he helped us put together that haul of fish and he would have been proud of that big grouper.

We have had some incredible grouper fishing this season in the sub 10ft zone.. But not many of my customers have been able to turn these monster gags at one of my holes… I had my favorite girls ms Susan and Leiza and I knew they had the ability to turn a few of these fish. First stop I put them on a school of reds just to warm up and they did a number on them.. We moved out west, not far, and the girls commenced to bending the rods with some beautiful gags. We wrapped up the day with our limit and I was glad to see them as it had been too long since the last time.
