Mississippi History Saved Saving lost pieces of Mississippi’s history

Finally got a chance to get out and do some detecting. Met Jeremy for a quick hunt and had fun. A little pun for those who know, probably before most people’s time. Hopefully this fall we’ll be on some more great hunts and I’ll get caught up with Nicholas on the silver. Mississippi History Saved

We had a blast on these two hunts. Nicholas continues to outdo me on the silver. The gun part is from a double barrel shotgun from the late 1800s!

Here’s a little update on some of our finds from the last hunt. We had just put them to the side not really knowing what they were. Nicholas found what we thought was a piece of copper pipe, turns out to be a rifle cartridge from 1881. I found what I thought was an electronic resistor of sorts, turned out it’s a band from a racing pigeon. Then the aluminum caps I first thought were center wheel caps are actually coasters from the 1950’s. Always a surprise with this amazing hobby.

Our second, third and fourth hunts of 2024. We’re getting off to a good start, hopefully we can keep it going. Nicholas was super stoked with his latest finds as you’ll see by his reactions, as was I. Jeremy, got to check and recheck them holes. Wish we could have been there to film your finds.

Here’s some of our last hunts before Christmas. Hope to get a couple more before the end of the year.

A couple of short hunts this week. The class ring didn’t have a school name or initials so won’t be able to find the owner. The ladies watch was 10 karat gold filled so had a pretty good day. A little History lost and Saved today.

It would be a dream come true to get permission to hunt a spot like this. And even better to donate the finds to a museum of some sort for the people of Simpson county and all Mississippians to enjoy for years to come. There’s likely hundreds of lost items just waiting to see the light again. History is more exciting when you can see the relics of yesteryear, instead of just reading and wondering.

A little History of Copiah County that most people didn’t know existed. It’s all around us, we drive by it everyday. Nicholas and I will be on the lookout for some of these coins on our future hunts. Thanks to Steve Collins for this Saved History
