We are very honored to be asked to help with the Benjamin House auction. All items have been donated by the Barron County Pro Rodeo to support Benjamin's House Emergency Shelter. Be sure to check out next year's rodeo at the Barron County Fairgrounds.
Benjamin's House Emergency Shelter is a wrap-around program-based shelter that provides shelter, food, and case management services to homeless individuals for a period of 90 days.
Our residents are not only assisted in finding work and permanent housing, but our case manager also works closely with them to address the root causes of their homelessness.
Our community support and sponsors are critical because our organization relies completely on donations and fundraising.
Your donations can make a significant impact in the lives of many. For every item sold in the auction or every donation made, we promise to take the following actions:
- Help individuals secure employment opportunities - Provide access to mental health treatment for residents
- Connect residents with the necessary assistance to overcome alcohol and drug addiction
- Collaborate and create reunification opportunities for parents and children, reducing the number of children in foster care - Offer resources for parenting education
- Provide assistance to individuals affected by domestic violence and ensure their safety
- Offer financial coaching and provide a permanent home to help alleviate the burden of fear and insecurity that arises when one doesn't know where they will sleep tonight.
Benjamin's House Emergency Shelter is named after Mother Mary Benjamin, who welcomed another order of homeless Sisters to their convent. Since 2011, the convent has served as an emergency shelter, providing assistance to resolve homeless situations.
In January 2009, a committee was formed to address rural homelessness. Recognizing the negative impact on people's health and well-being, they worked together to create a service delivery system to provide basic needs and address underlying issues.
The committee developed the idea for an emergency shelter and formed a Board of Directors to create an organizational structure. The shelter provides services to clients and represents a place of hope and new beginnings.
From a past resident:
"when I came to the Benjamin's house i was at rock bottom. within the first ten minutes here I had a sense of relief just from the welcoming arms of the staff. they were very understanding of my situation and offered to help any way possible. it truly was a blessing to be here. the staff is fantastic all the way around. you can feel the compassion for helping others every single day. Lori and Penny are absolute life savers and offer to help in any way they can. the front desk staff are great people and are always there if you need anything. i would not change a single thing here, i am so thankful to have been able to stay here. thank you Benjamin's House for everything!"
This donation provides homeless families with a balance of compassion, discipline, and wrap-around support to meet their unique situation and help them find their way home. Although we may not have the power to change the world entirely, we can still make a difference for those who are willing to accept it. Over the last 12 years, we have touched the lives of over 1400 people, including 247 veterans and over 55 aging individuals, 324 families, and 371 youth, by providing a safe space for parents to heal and reunite. We are deeply grateful to our volunteers and donors, without whom we couldn't do any of this. So, thank you for your support today!
