As of 1:15 today our power and internet have been out, and I promise I paid the bills for both!

We’re not sure how long it will be out, but we are pretty sure that whoever caused the outage is having a worse day than us!

If you’re trying to reach us, just be aware that we are at the mercy of the utility companies, and we’re as anxious to have everything back to normal as anyone.

Thanks for your patience!

I recently came across these inspirational words of wisdom by Jennifer Weiner, and thought you might enjoy it:

“I’ve learned a lot this year. I learned that things don't always turn out the way you planned, or the way you think they should. And I’ve learned that there are things that go wrong that don’t always get fixed or get put back together the way they were before. I’ve learned that some broken things stay broken, and I’ve learned that you can get through bad times and keep looking for better ones, as long as you have people who love you.”

Here's the way I see it: If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

I read this inspirational quote by Brianna Wiest and thought it was a great reminder for all of us:

“If someone is falling behind in life, you don’t have to remind them. Believe me, they already know. If someone is unhealthy, they know. If someone is struggling in their relationships, with money, with self-image, they know. It’s what consumes their thoughts each day. What you need to do for those who are struggling is not to reprimand, but encourage. Tell them what’s good about their lives, show them the potential that you see. Love them where they are. When we can’t see clearly for ourselves, we need others to speak greatness over us. People don’t need you to tell them what’s wrong with their lives, they already know. They need you to reassure them that they can still make it right.”

Here’s the way I see it: A word of encouragement during failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success.

The other day, I overheard someone saying to always remember that silence and a smile are two powerful tools. Smiling solves many problems, and silence avoids many problems.

According to neurologists, smiling creates a chemical reaction in the brain, releasing hormones such as dopamine and serotonin. These can lift one's mood, lower stress, and boost one's immune system.

Here's the way I see it: Use your smile to change the world, but don't let the world change your smile.

I came across a quote by Jim Rohn that really got me thinking. He said, “You become like the five people you spend the most time with. Choose carefully.”

Negativity is contagious. Unhappiness is contagious. Fear is contagious. But so is happiness. So is optimism. So is love. Surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you. And strive to be a reflection of what you want to receive.

Here’s the way I see it: Attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching?

I came across “The Three Analogy” by Tyler Perry’s character Madea, which discusses the three types of people in your life. It goes something like this:

There are three types of people in your life: leaf people, branch people, and root people.

Leaf people come into your life, and they are like leaves on a tree. They are only there for a season. Like leaves, they are gone as soon as it gets cold or a strong wind blows.

Branch people are stronger than leaves and will stick around through most seasons, but they often break away after you go through a storm or two.

Root people, like the roots of the tree, are always there for you. They are supportive throughout your life, and their strength grows deeper and stronger with every passing year.

Who are the leaf, branch, and root people in your life? And what role do you play in other people’s lives?

Here’s the way I see it: There will always be a reason why you meet people. Either you need them to change your life, or you’re the one that will change theirs.

Here’s a comical little story I thought you’d enjoy:

A young girl sat on her grandpa’s lap while he read her a story. Every now and then, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. Then she touched her own cheek. Finally, she asked, “Grandpa, did God make you?” He replied with a chuckle, “Why yes, sweetheart. He made me a long time ago.”

Then she asked, “Did God make me, too?” He replied, “Yes, he sure did. He just made you a few years ago.” While touching both of their faces, she smiled and said, “He’s getting better at it, isn’t he?”

Here’s the way I see it: There is joy and wonder everywhere when you see the world through the eyes of a child.

Have you ever heard the saying that success is like an iceberg? This is because a lot of work happens below the surface where nobody can see it.

Like an iceberg, success has two parts: what people can see (above the surface) and what people don’t see (below the surface). On average, only 10 percent of an iceberg is visible above the surface, and it takes many years for an iceberg to fully form.

Success typically requires many key elements that people often do not notice which are hidden below the surface, including dedication, hard work, persistence, flexibility, consistency, and even failure. Always remember that a little progress every day adds up to big results.

Here’s the way I see it: As Albert Schweitzer said, “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

Paul Harvey was a man known for his extraordinary words of wisdom. Here’s an excerpt from his infamous “letter to his grandchildren:

“We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I’d like better. I’d really like for them to know about hand-me-down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches… I really would.

I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated. I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car. And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.

It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep. I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in. I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it’s all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he’s scared, I hope you let him.

When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you’ll let him/her.

I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.”

Here’s the way I see it: Harvey said it best: “These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it’s the only way to appreciate life."

I thought you’d enjoy these words of wisdom from Donna Ashworth about “Joy.”

Joy does not arrive with a fanfare,
on a red carpet strewn with the flowers of a perfect life.

Joy sneaks in, as you pour a cup of coffee,
watching the sun hit your favourite tree, just right.

And you usher joy away,
because you are not ready for it.

Your house is not as it must be,
for such a distinguished guest.

But joy cares nothing for your messy home,
or your bank-balance,
or your waistline, you see.

Joy is supposed to slither through the cracks of your imperfect life,
that’s how joy works.

You cannot invite her, you can only be ready when she appears.

And hug her with meaning,
because in this very moment,
joy chose you.

Here’s the way I see it: As Bob Goff said, “Figure out what fuels your joy, then do lots of that.”
