How much leadership time in your business is spent fixing problems that should never have escalated?

💰 A piece in The CEO Magazine highlights a hidden cost many organizations overlook.

Businesses carefully plan revenue targets, hiring, and systems, yet leadership capability is often expected to keep up on its own.

When it falls behind, the impact shows up in missed opportunities, inconsistent performance, and senior leaders stepping in to solve issues that should have been handled earlier.

The cost rarely appears as a single figure. Instead, value leaks through time. Executives spend hours managing avoidable performance issues, mediating conflict, and resetting expectations.

Research cited in the article from Gallup adds context.

➡️ Only about 21 percent of the global workforce is highly engaged
➡️ Disengagement costs the global economy an estimated US$438 billion in productivity in 2024.

In many cases, people leave managers rather than roles.

The article argues that one-off courses or leadership days rarely change behavior. Capability improves when development happens alongside real work, with targeted coaching and consistent application that strengthens decision-making and ex*****on.

What makes transformational leaders stand out in the corporate world?

According to insights from Emeritus, transformational leaders should inspire. They redefine the status quo, build trust, and rally their teams around a shared vision. But what sets them apart?

Here are five practices that make transformational leaders exceptional:

1️⃣ Leading by example: They walk the talk, demonstrating creativity, responsibility, and a commitment to the collective goal.

2️⃣ Delegating with purpose: By aligning responsibilities with individual strengths, they empower their teams and foster autonomy.

3️⃣ Setting meaningful goals: They inspire teams to prioritize shared objectives over personal interests, creating a sense of purpose.

4️⃣ Intellectual stimulation: They challenge conventional thinking, encouraging innovation and fresh perspectives.

5️⃣ Individualized support: They recognize and nurture the unique strengths and aspirations of their team members.

Which of these leadership practices resonates most with you? Or, do you have a transformational leader who has inspired you?

Your standard hiring process could be actively filtering out the exact transformational leaders you need.

Most companies follow a very predictable funnel for executive roles. Recruiters source profiles, screen them, and pass the safest choices up the chain until the ultimate decision-maker meets the final consensus candidate.

The problem with this traditional approach is that it only rewards people who tick every conventional box. It inadvertently throws out the unconventional candidates early in the process.

Yet, those non-traditional thinkers are usually the ones who possess true transformational DNA.

If you are serious about bringing in a leader who will drive real change, you have to invert the hiring pyramid.

Here is how you can restructure your approach to find better leaders:

➡️ Place the Head of the Search Committee among the very first interviewers

➡️ Use these early conversations to catch unconventional talent before the standard filtering process drops them

➡️ Calibrate the specific needs of the role directly with your search partner based on these initial screenings

Investing your own time in the early screening phase might feel backward, but it is an absolutely vital step. It ensures the right candidates do not slip away.

Once you have an exceptional, out-of-the-box leader excited about the role, you can easily move them through the regular process to get buy-in from your other stakeholders.

What's the one quality that separates a manager from an inspirational leader?

Modern leadership has moved beyond simply supervising tasks.

The most effective leaders today are those who inspire their teams to believe in a shared vision and feel motivated to contribute their best work.

This approach is known as transformational leadership.

It centers on:

- Creating a clear, inspiring vision that gives meaning to daily work.
- Building trust through consistency, transparency, and accountability.
- Empowering individuals to take ownership, innovate, and grow their skills.
- Communicating with empathy and clarity to foster strong relationships.

By focusing on influence and long-term growth, these leaders guide their teams toward meaningful change while nurturing individual potential.

They create an environment where people feel valued and motivated to go beyond expectations.

How do your daily actions reflect your leadership philosophy?

Leadership isn't defined by what you intend to do, but by how you actually behave.

Transformational Leadership moves beyond inner traits and manifests as a lived experience through specific, observable behaviors.

When leaders consistently embody these principles, organizations gain clarity and momentum.

Here are five key behaviors that shape this style of leadership:

1️⃣ Charismatic leadership:
This isn't about having a loud ego. It’s about radiating purposeful, authentic enthusiasm. Leaders who believe deeply in their mission inspire confidence and strengthen team cohesion.

2️⃣ Inspirational motivation:
Teams respond to the messages they hear. By communicating expectations clearly and conveying optimism, leaders help their teams rise to meet challenges. Fear causes stagnation; purpose drives progress.

3️⃣ Intellectual stimulation:
Great leaders hire people to think, not just execute. They create a culture that invites questions and empowers employees to explore new possibilities.

4️⃣ Individualized consideration:
This behavior sees beyond titles. It involves listening deeply and recognizing that diversity of thought fuels innovation. Honoring individuality builds trust.

5️⃣ Authenticity:
This is the foundation. Without congruence between personal values and public actions, the other behaviors fall flat. Teams may overlook mistakes, but they won't follow dishonesty.

To succeed with AI, your strategy must focus on people.

Many C-Suite leaders see AI as just a technical challenge, but Harvard Business Review shows it is often a psychological one.

When employees fear they might lose their jobs, it creates a gap between them and the company's goals. Studies indicate that ignoring the human side of AI adoption can lead to increased employee stress.

If your team operates out of fear, they will retreat instead of contributing new ideas.

Data shows that 61% of employees with empathic managers report innovating at work, compared to 13% under unempathetic leadership. Furthermore, 84% of leaders see a direct link between psychological safety and tangible AI outcomes.

Empathy is essential for making technical progress. A company cannot fully embrace AI if employees feel unsure or afraid.

To successfully roll out these tools, leaders must prioritize trust to reduce fear of uncertainty. Without a sense of safety, investing in AI can become a costly struggle with internal pushback.

What steps are you taking to create psychological safety so your AI investments pay off?

Research shows a wide gap between how executives perceive AI adoption and how employees actually experience it—most workers feel anxious and far less enthusiastic than their bosses assume. Many mid-size companies are at a turning point right now.

Their business models might still be generating revenue. But AI is changing how customers buy, how products are built, and how fast expectations shift.

That leaves boards, founders, and investors with a genuinely hard question. Is this just a period of adjustment? Or does the company need a full rebuild?

And that question usually leads to an even harder one. Can the current CEO actually lead a rebuild? Or are they better at maintaining what already exists?

For founders, this one is especially tough. The person who built the company isn't always the right person for the next phase.

That's not a criticism of what they built. It just means the next chapter calls for something different.

Boards sometimes wait too long, hoping the team will adapt. By the time the problem is obvious, the company has already lost time, talent, or market share.

Our Founder and CEO, Anu Parthasarathy, addressed this in her LinkedIn newsletter. You can read it here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/when-old-playbook-stops-working-boards-need-different-parthasarathy-bvrpc/

Technical skills can help someone reach the C-suite, but they are not enough to stay there.

A leader’s impact depends on how well they listen, build trust, and empower their team. Becoming a visionary leader means focusing on key people skills developed through consistent daily habits.

According to the Harvard Business Review, top executives build these habits by:

➡ Walking around, talking in small groups, and having one-on-one conversations to get honest feedback. They also make sure to respond thoughtfully.

➡ Instead of just reading reports, they spend time in the daily work environment to witness friction, interruptions, and workarounds themselves.

➡ Intentionally seeking perspectives through mentoring and open conversations to spot their own blind spots.

Ultimately, executive leadership is not about having all the answers, but about understanding the people who move the organization forward.

Which of these three habits do you think is most important for a leader to master?

Technical expertise alone will only take you so far in your career. As your leadership role grows, your impact depends more on how well you listen, build trust, and help others do their best work. To strengthen those “power skills,” focus on small, repeatable habits. Start with listening. Get cl...

Is EQ the new competitive advantage that actually matters?

We often fixate on metrics, KPIs, and growth hacks, but we might be overlooking the one skill that drives sustainable success: the ability to relate.

We are operating in a "Relationship Economy." In this environment, emotional literacy is currency.

While traditional leadership rewarded logic and strategy, the post-digital era demands something different. As AI automates decisions, human connection becomes the true differentiator.

Here is why emotional literacy is the new measure of leadership:

📍 IQ opens doors, but EQ keeps them open. IQ builds systems, but EQ builds trust.

📍 Leadership isn't just about directing traffic anymore; it's about managing energy. Understanding how emotions move through a team allows you to steer them rather than suppress them.

📍 When you treat emotions as data, you can identify unseen tensions and respond with clarity. This turns tension into traction.

📍 People may join for the opportunity, but they stay for how you make them feel.

Leaders who master repair and regulation create environments where innovation replaces reactivity.
