Bats can take advantage of surprisingly small openings around a structure. Common areas we inspect include:

šļø WHEN ARE BATS MOST ACTIVE?
Bats are primarily active from dusk through nighttime. September and October can be an important time to watch for bat activity in Texas as seasonal movement and migration can make activity around structures more noticeable.
If you see bats repeatedly leaving the same section of your roof around sunset, there may be a roost or entry point that should be professionally inspected.
š¦ WHAT HAPPENS WHEN BATS MOVE INTO AN ATTIC?
A single bat accidentally entering a house is different from an established colony using a structure as a roost.
When bats repeatedly occupy an attic or structural space, homeowners may experience:
ā¢ Bat droppings (guano) accumulating below roosting areas
ā¢ Urine and odor problems
ā¢ Staining around entry points
ā¢ Noises in ceilings, walls, or attic spaces
ā¢ Parasites associated with bat roosts
ā¢ Repeated bats entering living areas
ā¢ Contaminated insulation or attic materials
ā ļø WHY SHOULD BAT ACTIVITY BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY?
Bats are extremely beneficial wildlife. They consume large numbers of insects and are an important part of our ecosystem. They should not be unnecessarily harmed or killed.
However, bats living inside a home can create legitimate health and sanitation concerns.
š¦ RABIES
Bats are one of the wildlife species associated with rabies in the United States. Rabies can be transmitted when infected saliva enters the body, most commonly through a bite and potentially through a scratch or contact with broken skin or mucous membranes.
Because bat bites can sometimes be difficult to recognize, never handle a bat with your bare hands.
If a bat is discovered in a room with a sleeping person, unattended child, or someone who may not be able to reliably report contact, contact your local public-health authority or medical professional for guidance.
Pets that may have contacted a bat should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
š¦ HISTOPLASMOSIS
Histoplasmosis is not simply a disease that bats directly āgiveā to people. It is caused by the fungus Histoplasma, which can grow particularly well in soil or material enriched with bird or bat droppings.
When contaminated material or accumulated guano is disturbed, microscopic fungal spores can become airborne and potentially be inhaled.
This is one reason large accumulations of bat guano should not simply be swept, blown, or vacuumed without considering appropriate protective procedures.
š¦ OTHER BAT-ASSOCIATED HEALTH CONCERNS
Bat roosts can also support bat bugs, mites, ticks, fleas, and other arthropods. Some may move away from a roost after bats leave, which is why identifying and addressing the entire situationānot simply removing an individual batāis important.
Not every bat carries rabies, and simply seeing a bat does not mean you have been exposed to a disease. The concern becomes greater when there has been possible direct contact, a bat enters an occupied living space, or significant guano has accumulated.

Bat control isn't simply catching a bat and sealing a hole.
