This ski slope powers 150,000 Copenhagen homes! 🎿 (And it's helping create a carbon-neutral city) Most people don't think about where their rubbish goes: ↳ EU countries still landfill 23% of municipal waste ↳ Traditional incinerators emit significant pollutants ↳ Waste facilities ty...

We replaced the small guzzler with the 1800 gallon guzzler with over 530 square feet of catchment. The catchment roof and guzzler roof will hold up adult elk. This is a US Forest Service, Tri-State Wildlife, and Wildlife Watering Systems project. The old guzzler would not have held up to the number of thirsty visitors that are continuously showing up.

All animals need three things to survive - water, cover and food. It is what we refer to as habitat. It is a tripod setup. If one leg is missing, the whole thing fails. Do the animals that you love to hunt or zwatch have all three? It doesn't matter if it is on your property, a lease, or public land, and there is plenty of cover and food, they still need water. We visited northern New Mexico, northern Arizona, and the south half of Utah this month. The only places that we saw animals, were around rivers and lakes. No water, no wildlife. There are numerous wildlife organizations that fund guzzlers on public lands and some will cost share them on private lands, if you have the other two components. There are also government agencies that will cost share habitat work. Check in to joining one of these habitat organizations. If you own land, I can help you find an agency in your area that might help fund your project.
We also visited some friends in the Texas hill country. They live in a rural HOA setting. They built their home about a dozen years ago and included a swimming pool, a small grass lawn and flower beds. At the time, there were no water concerns. Now they aren't allowed to use any water outside the house. They have installed tanks for rainfall harvesting to keep water in the pool.
Wildlife Watering Systems can help you with either of these projects.

I received this short video from a customer in the Phoenix, Arizona, area. It is the first time I have received anything from him. He told me that the guzzler is the only water source for miles.

Odd things that you see in Colorado State Parks. Box Canyon Waterfall at Ouray has a sign that says you are not to feed the chipmunks. A bird feeder is right in front of it. The birds knock seed out and the chipmunks eat them. I guess it is permissable for the park employees to feed the birds and for the birds to feed the chipmunks.

We replaced this guzzler a few weeks ago. It did not hold enough water for the number of animals that visited it. We replaced it with a 12' diameter one that holds 3 times as much water. We filled it with water and had a visitor while the water was running around the gutter. I will go back and install a 500 square foot catchment roof soon.
