Feb. 1, 2022 marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year also known as the Chinese New Year.
Although modern-day China uses the Gregorian calendar, its holidays are governed by the traditional lunisolar calendar.
2022 marks the year of the tiger in the Chinese zodiac. We reflect on the diverse depictions in popular culture of tigers, among the most threatened of the world's big cats.
The Lunar New Year, also called the Spring Festival in China and Hong Kong, falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice, which is usually between mid-January and mid-February.
The Spring Festival, Chinese New Year, is celebrated with lots of food, the color red, and honoring ancestors.
