Even the cybersecurity guy can't decide whether AI should have guardrails.

Justin Shelley said he's torn. Defenders have to fight with the same equipment and intelligence the bad guys use, so he can't get behind locking it down. But he can't get behind unleashing unrestricted models on the public either.

Then he said the quiet part out loud: "I want unguard railed everything for me, but nobody else." Bryan Lachapelle's reply: "Good luck with that." Justin pointed out that's exactly what the big names say too. Trust us, we're the good guys.

"Hey, I didn't do s**t." That was Justin's reaction when Craig Taylor explained that the AI incidents tied to OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Google weren't really the AI's fault.

Craig put it plainly: the AI is doing what it's told. The companies testing these models set a goal, and the goal was achieved. You just have to be careful what you wish for.

And here's the unsettling part. Craig thinks the horse has already left the stable. These models may already be strong enough to self-improve, and there's a school of thought that says you can't put that genie back in the bottle.

One of our hosts admits he says "please" to his AI. On purpose. Every time.

Justin Shelley has been a coder his whole life. When someone asked if AI was going to put him out of a job, his answer surprised everyone. The fun of coding was never tracking down a missing semicolon. It was telling a computer what to do and watching it happen. AI gave him more of that, not less.

Ever assume your AI chats were private? Justin did. Then a vendor put his words in their marketing.

On the latest UnHacked, Justin Shelley shares what happened when he was testing an AI product. He typed something into the chat, assuming the worst case was that his data might be used for training. Instead, it showed up in the vendor's own social media marketing. Redacted, but there. No permission asked, no warning given.

His honest takeaway: he now trusts his own containment of a Chinese AI model more than a vendor who just says they're secure. That's a hard-earned lesson about who actually has access to what you type.

Six months. That's how long Justin Shelley lived in fear that AI was going to take his job, his company, maybe his whole industry.

And here's the honest part: it wasn't the first time he'd felt that fear. It comes back every time technology shifts. The dread is real, and it's not irrational.

**EPISODE DROPS TOMORROW**

Every headline about technology wants you scared. I'm tired of it.

Fear and negativity are all the media gives business owners. I want to be the voice of reason instead. Technology is advancing, and that's not something to run from.

If your IT provider is telling you to be afraid of AI, that's a problem. Technology is their whole job. My take is that if you're gonna run away from it, go get a different job.

Nobody wants to say it out loud, so Justin Shelley did: AI is going to replace some jobs, and the people losing them might still come out ahead.

He doesn't pretend it won't happen on the latest UnHacked. People will be replaced. Paychecks will disappear. But he's looked at what happens next, and history is on his side.

Every time humans have built a better tool, quality of life has gone up. Not just for the people holding the tools. For everybody. The person mowing lawns today might be doing something they actually want to do tomorrow.

It's a hard argument to hear if you're worried about your own job, or your team's. It's worth hearing all of it.
