What a month it’s been!
We’re proud to recognize two outstanding members of our San Antonio Region! 👏

⭐ Officer Gary Decker is being recognized for his courageous actions during an assault in Temple, Texas, on July 28.

While off duty and on his way to get breakfast, Officer Decker heard a woman screaming and saw her pointing toward a man who had allegedly attacked her with a knife in the parking lot of an H-E-B.
Rather than ignoring the situation, Officer Decker followed the suspect from a safe distance and helped provide officers with his location.
Temple Police ultimately located the suspect nearby and took him into custody.

Officer Decker’s quick thinking, courage and willingness to help protect someone in danger earned him a nomination for the ASSIST Security Officer of the Year Award.

🎓 Officer Melanie Erbes has also earned her certificate as a Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor through the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), demonstrating her continued commitment to professional development and excellence in healthcare security.

A great week at GSX!

We were proud to see members of the North Texas Chapter of ASIS recognized for their volunteer efforts and to have members of our management team in attendance.

From connecting with fellow security professionals on the expo floor to hearing from industry leaders and celebrating with the ASIS community, GSX was a great opportunity to learn, connect, and stay engaged with the security industry.

✨Officer Ruffner was recognized as Patrol Officer of the First Quarter 2026, receiving a certificate and personalized gold medal.

✨Captain Al Baker was recognized as Patrol Officer of the Second Quarter 2026, also receiving a certificate, and gold medal.

On August 7, 2026, she graduated from Texas State University’s Texas School Safety Center School Based Law Enforcement Master Certification Program!
An impressive accomplishment following extensive training through the Introductory, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels.

In addition to earning her Master Certification, Captain Regino holds both Basic and Advanced School Resource Officer certifications through NASRO and is an active member of NASRO and TASRO.

We are incredibly proud to have her representing Smith Protective Services and the dedication, professionalism, and commitment she brings to school safety every day.
