THEY RECORDED 21 DAYS OF TORTURE. HE ATE CARPET CRUMBS BECAUSE HE WAS STARVING.

THE MURDER OF JA'KAI SMITH
Reynoldsburg, Ohio | April 10, 2025

Ja'Kai Smith was 4 years old.

For 21 days, prosecutors say cameras inside his bedroom documented what no child should ever experience.

Not a single moment.

Not one violent outburst.

Twenty-one days.

According to prosecutors and court testimony, Ja'Kai was abused inside his Reynoldsburg home by the very people entrusted with protecting himβ€”his mother, Kailee Smith-Parks, and her boyfriend, Linwood Allison Jr.

Investigators allege he was locked inside his bedroom.

Denied food.

Punished for asking to eat.

According to court testimony, one recording showed Ja'Kai eating pieces of carpet because he was so hungry.

Four years old.

So desperate for food that prosecutors say he tried to survive by eating carpet fibers.

Authorities allege the abuse escalated into repeated acts of torture.

Court testimony described cold showers.

Beatings.

Waterboarding.

A frightened little boy crying out while the abuse continued.

By the time Ja'Kai arrived at Nationwide Children's Hospital on April 10, 2025, prosecutors said he was severely malnourished and covered in injuries.

He died a short time later.

Even then, investigators allege the abuse did not end.

According to testimony presented in court, after Ja'Kai became unresponsive, the adults accused him of pretending before allegedly burning him with incense in an attempt to force a reaction instead of immediately seeking medical care.

A Franklin County grand jury later indicted Kailee Smith-Parks and Linwood Allison Jr. on dozens of charges, including aggravated murder, murder, and multiple counts of endangering children.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

Both remain jailed without bond while awaiting trial.

As details of the investigation became public, attention also turned to Franklin County Children Services.

Family members said they contacted the agency on March 17, 2025, reporting concerns that Ja'Kai was malnourished and being locked inside a bedroom.

Records indicate a caseworker visited the home two days later.

The case remained open.

Twenty-two days later...

Ja'Kai was dead.

Now, heartbreaking questions remain about how a child reportedly under active agency review could allegedly endure weeks of escalating abuse without being removed from the home.

Ja'Kai Smith was only 4 years old.

A little boy who should have known comfort.

Instead, prosecutors say his final weeks were filled with fear, hunger, and unimaginable suffering.

SHE VANISHED 44 YEARS AGOβ€”NOW A SEARCH TEAM BELIEVES THEY MAY HAVE FOUND THE CAR THAT COULD FINALLY SOLVE THE MYSTERY...

When 36-year-old Theresa Kawash disappeared from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, on July 4, 1982, no one imagined her case would remain one of the region's most haunting mysteries for more than four decades.

Theresa was a devoted mother to her ten-year-old daughter, Kelly.

She was also in the middle of a bitter divorce from her husband, Edward, a successful businessman who owned several beauty salons throughout northern New Jersey.

Friends described the separation as hostile.

Family members later said Theresa feared something terrible might happen.

Then, on Independence Day...

She vanished.

So did her gold 1979 Nissan 280Z.

Neither Theresa nor her sports car was ever seen again.

At first, investigators believed she might have left voluntarily.

The divorce had become increasingly difficult.

Emotions were running high.

Some wondered if she simply wanted to disappear and start over.

But those closest to Theresa refused to believe it.

Her daughter waited every evening to hear one familiar sound.

The garage door opening.

The sound never came.

Days turned into weeks.

Weeks became months.

Police searched the surrounding area.

Detectives interviewed family members, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.

Leads came and went.

Rumors spread throughout the community.

Some pointed toward the divorce.

Others whispered about business disputes.

But investigators found almost nothing.

No confirmed sightings.

No abandoned vehicle.

No body.

No physical evidence capable of explaining what had happened after Theresa left home.

As years became decades...

The case slowly faded into cold-case status.

Kelly grew up without knowing what happened to her mother.

She carried unanswered questions into adulthood.

The family never stopped hoping that one day someone would discover the truth.

Forty-four years later...

A nonprofit cold-case search organization arrived in Englewood Cliffs with one goal.

Find Theresa's missing car.

The team spent days scanning rivers, creeks, lakes, and waterways throughout northern New Jersey.

The Hudson River.

The Harlem River.

The Hackensack River.

Overpeck Creek.

Every location connected to Theresa's final known movements.

Most searches ended the same way.

Old debris.

Abandoned equipment.

Vehicles unrelated to the investigation.

Nothing that brought investigators closer to Theresa.

Then...

Everything changed.

While surveying a shallow section of Overpeck Creek, sonar suddenly revealed something unusual beneath the muddy bottom.

At first glance...

It looked like an old vehicle.

The search team carefully maneuvered into position.

Live imaging showed what appeared to be a severely deteriorated automobile resting beneath only a few feet of water.

The outline became clearer.

An engine compartment.

A roofline.

A trunk.

Then someone quietly said the words no one expected to hear.

"It looks like a two-door car."

The atmosphere changed instantly.

Theresa's missing Nissan had also been a two-door sports car.

Divers entered the water.

As mud drifted away from the submerged wreck...

They recovered a small automotive component.

It carried markings indicating it had been manufactured in Japan.

Moments later...

Another discovery followed.

Fragments that appeared consistent with parts from a late-1970s Nissan.

The excitement quickly spread through the investigation.

Investigators remained cautious.

They still needed proof.

But for the first time in forty-four years...

There was a real possibility they had found the vehicle everyone had been searching for.

Authorities were immediately notified.

Cold-case investigators.

State police.

County detectives.

The discovery transformed the quiet creek into an active investigation.

Then another detail emerged.

Historical records connected the submerged vehicle to a registration that raised entirely new questions.

Questions no one had anticipated asking.

Suddenly...

The investigation was no longer focused only on finding Theresa.

It was becoming a much larger mystery.

Because if the vehicle wasn't hers...

Why had a nearly identical Nissan from the same era been sitting underwater less than two miles from where Theresa disappeared?

And if this wasn't Theresa's car...

Where was hers?

More importantly...

Who had gone to such extraordinary lengths to make sure neither Theresa nor her vehicle were ever found?

Continue the story... πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡
