A $72 million private island in the Maldives is offering buyers an unconventional way to purchase luxury real estate: cryptocurrency. Part of the forthcoming Baccarat Hotel & Residences Maldives development, the island features four fully furnished villas, each with four bedrooms, a 65-foot private pool, and wraparound terraces overlooking the Indian Ocean. The property also has its own beach and reef, private causeway access, and round-the-clock staff and security.
The island is being marketed through Corn, a private members club for cryptocurrency holders, which is allowing buyers to pay using USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, without first converting their holdings into traditional currency.
