This is a silky, sleeveless dress that I popped a thin turtleneck tee underneath. N**e fishnets are my “hose,” and I’m finishing with black suede boots. We have enjoyed relief from the heat at last. Fall is my favorite time to get dressed.

The dress code was casual cocktail. I went with the cocktail part. 😁💖🤩 I’d rather be overdressed than under. If you are unsure of how to dress for an event, aim higher.

If you have pieces you aren’t wearing because there aren’t events for them, the upcoming holidays might present opportunities to dust them off. A few refreshers will keep the holiday looks fresh: shoes, a bag, a new top.

Basics don’t have to look boring. These slacks and the shirt are considered basic items. They fit well, and this makes a big difference. I’m also pairing them with a gold heel that makes the outfit less basic, a black belt with gold hardware, and gold jewelry.

Basics ground our wardrobe and make it possible to create outfits for your everyday life. Depending on your style, you might need anywhere from 60-80% basics. Look for quality ones and get them tailored to fit.

How do you define “statement coat”? To me, it’s a coat that’s well made and cut in a great color. Not this.

Fashion is struggling. It’s kind of desperate. It’s making too many things for not enough consumers on the planet for all of it. It’s making a lot of odd ball pieces like these coats and also a lot of basics (one only needs so many).

Shop your closet before making your fall wish list. You probably only need a few refreshers. Don’t feed the crazy money-machine cycle more than you need to. Look for brands making cool stuff you love. Invest there.

Less is more. ☺️💗

I’m seeing lots of soft and yummy textures (so much suede) and sleek toe boxes, either pointed or slightly with a square-ish toe. We still have color but also a lot of earth tones to ground us.

The legs of jeans continue to be generously cut, which I personally appreciate. If you’re petite, look for slimmer wide legs. The length is also slightly cropped so you can show off your shoes.

A funny thing happened at Banana Republic today. I found a wider version of the pants I was wearing. The brown are the BR pull on painter pants if you’d like to look them up.

I bought the pants (Laude the Label) 3-4 years ago. They were radical at the time. Now, they’re just normal pants. 😁

A little “boo” has made it to the porch. May as well bring out the animal print! Playing with this oversized cotton top. It’s challenging because of the exaggerated proportions. This shorter slimmer pant matches the play and provides some balance to the volume.
