Elaine Stoltz standing to my left is the lady who saved my sanity when I was in my mid-30s looking to make a career pivot (or 180!). She has been training men and women to be image consultants for many years, and she trained me 19 years ago, giving me a path forward to a new, more fulfilling career. I am forever grateful to her. What a joy to be with both at the recent Hue & Stripe conference in Dallas. Both ladies taught courses at the conference, continuing to educate so many of us. What a wonderful example they set to follow. Keep learning, keep teaching, keep growing.

There is a nice, new-ish shop near me in East Dallas called Miller Westby. It is 80% men’s and 20% women’s. If you are still shopping for Father’s Day, this would be a good place to stop into. They have several nice lines including Rye 51.

They also carry Martin Dingman, a family-owned premium leather business since 1990. I highly recommend a stop here for a wardrobe refresh or a gift.

An example of wearing black with a good color near the face. I wear black, and it isn’t on my color fan. So, while it isn’t my BEST color, I can wear a good color for me (olive and brown tones) near my face to soften the effect.

Black is professional and serious. It has its place. Just be sure it isn’t all black all the time. 😉 You know who you are. 😁😎 You are more than just black.

When a friend sends gorgeous home-grown lemons from California, you definitely make lemonade while wearing a yellow top. 🤩💛

Yellow is a happy, optimistic color, one I’ve always loved and luckily can wear. It’s not a color many wear successfully because it is warm. If you lack warmth in your body temperatures, you might find it does not work for you.

However, there is always a way to wear a color you love even if it isn’t one of your best. Try it in an accessory or part of a print rather than the predominate color.

My activity on Instagram is mostly stories such as things I’m seeing in the stores. I occasionally do a post for “the grid,” which is usually an outfit dump. 😀 You see these looks on this page with a commentary about the look.

I’d be happy to have you follow along there if you are inclined. It’s nice to see the outfits as a grouping. It definitely reflects the change in weather over time.

Shopping with my client last week, I was dressed comfortably but professionally in wide leg cotton pants and a cropped striped tee.

Cropped shirts get a bad rap with my age group and up; however, if they hit in the right spot, they are flattering. The key is the hem of the top goes to a narrow point on your body. For some, this is the waist, for others, it’s the high hip.

As I’ve shown in a previous post, a cropped button down shirt worn open makes a nice lightweight layer for summer over tanks, tees and dresses.

So, don’t rule out cropped shirts if you are “of a certain age.” They may work for you!

Spotted these darling striped pants at JCrew (I’ll link in the comments). They were perfect for my client who added some quality, fantastic pieces to her summer wardrobe.

I was advising four men clients on Monday in mini style sessions. One was open to wearing pink, another was not. One associated the color lavender as a young girl color, although it is a color that works well on him and with his gray suiting.

We have our thoughts about various colors, which either encourage or discourage wearing the color. Instead of allowing these thoughts to make your decision, notice how the color looks on you. If it is flattering to your eyes, hair and skin tone, maybe it’s time to get a piece in that color!
