A little stack of house music history. Business cards collected mostly around 2005, many of them picked up during Winter Music Conference in Miami Beach. DJs, producers, labels, record shops, promoters, radio…

Lady D, Dayhota, Glenn Underground, Hot Jams Records, Aaron Ross, Andy Ward, Jask, DJ Jes, Norm Talley, Gene Hunt, Gant-Man and more.

Also buried in there is one of my own old Traxsource.com cards from the early days! That Fort Lauderdale address was also the Soulfuric Records office and recording studio at that time. A lot of house music passed through that building!

A pretty great snapshot of the house music network at that time.

From the archive: Louie Vega in Chicago, 1998

A look back at flyers from Louie Vega’s Chicago appearances in 1998, including Smart Bar with Traxx, Jim Masters and the Idjut Boys, plus a night at House of Blues with Chicago’s Terry Hunter.

A great snapshot of late 1990s house music culture in Chicago.

from the pages of Project X magazine…

Project X documented the creative underground of New York City nightlife in the late 80s to mid 90s and became closely associated with the city’s Club Kid scene. Fashion, music and nightlife of the era were all documented in its pages. The magazine also captured the DJs, clubs, artists, personalities and style that defined NYC club culture at that time.

“We need to surprise ourselves and to be more and more unpredictable.” — Thomas Bangalter

In a music industry obsessed with more and more releases and faster output, too much music sounds the same and drifts further away from being art.

Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk reminds us that the creative process itself can be the most interesting part of making music.
