*Only 36% say their manager actually mentors them, despite half saying they want that.

*Leadership development budgets dropped 70% in a single year
The data is striking. According to Deloitte’s 2025 Gen Z and Millennial Survey, which gathered responses from more than 23,000 people across 44 countries, only 6 percent of Gen Z workers say their primary career goal is to reach a senior leadership position.

Let me clear something up. Tough leadership is not about yelling, micromanaging, or ignoring people's humanity. That's not strength—that's insecurity dressed up as authority.

Real tough leadership looks completely different. It means making hard decisions quickly while staying calm when everyone else panics. It means holding people accountable without cruelty. And most importantly, it means using a repeatable system—like my P.I.V.O.T. method—so your team knows exactly what to expect, even in a crisis.

I've spoken to over one hundred organizations a year, from the U.S. Air Force to the National Association of REALTORS. The best leaders I've met share one trait: resilient empathy. They don't avoid hard conversations and they don't pretend crises won't happen. They prepare.
