Some moments remind you that history isn’t only found in books. Sometimes, you’re fortunate enough to witness it unfold before your own eyes.
This past Saturday, I had the incredible privilege of being in Atlanta for our World Cup match and watching my country make history. The atmosphere was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Every goal brought an eruption of joy. Complete strangers embraced one another like family, united by a love for our country and the belief that we were witnessing something far greater than a football match.
What made the experience even more meaningful was knowing our children were watching from home. Although they haven’t had the opportunity to visit Congo yet, they celebrated every goal with us. They witnessed the pride, the resilience, and the joy that define our people. Moments like these help them understand that being Congolese is more than a place on a map. It’s a legacy they carry wherever they go.
As we celebrate the Independence of the Democratic Republic of the Congo today, I’m reminded that our strength has always been found in our unity, our perseverance, and our unwavering hope for the future.
I’m deeply grateful that I was able to witness this historic moment in person and that our children experienced it in their own way. These are the stories we’ll tell for years to come. They strengthen our roots and remind us where we come from.
To my beautiful Congo, Happy Independence Day. 🇨🇩
Here’s to our past, our present, and a future that continues to make history. The dream is no longer just a dream. We’re living it.
Vive la RDC. Vive le peuple congolais. ❤️💙💛
