As Americans celebrate Independence Day with family, friends, food, and fireworks, United States Protective Services encourages everyone to prioritize safety.
The Fourth of July is one of the busiest times for emergency responders, with many preventable injuries and incidents. A few simple precautions can help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday.
> Fireworks Safety Tips
● Buy legal fireworks from licensed retailers.
● Follow all instructions before use.
● Keep fireworks away from children.
● Always supervise use.
● Maintain a safe distance.
● Keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby.
● Do not relight malfunctioning fireworks.
● Never aim fireworks at people, vehicles, or buildings.
● Avoid use in dry or windy conditions.
● Soak used fireworks before disposal.
> Driving & Community Safety
● Never drink and drive—use a sober driver or rideshare.
● Always wear a seatbelt.
● Watch for pedestrians, especially at night.
● Secure your home before leaving.
● Keep valuables out of sight in vehicles.
● Be considerate of neighbors, pets, and those sensitive to noise.
● Report emergencies or suspicious activity to authorities.
