A new chapter for the Urban League movement in DFW. ❤️🤍

Congratulations to Dr. Brandy Alfred, the new President & CEO of the Dallas-Fort Worth Urban League!

My own commitment to the Urban League movement began with Young Professionals in 2010, so it was especially meaningful to celebrate this moment alongside community leaders who have given years of service to keep this work moving forward.

New chapters are possible because people kept writing the story.

Here’s to honoring those who carried the work and supporting those who will carry it forward. 🖤

Who really controls the capital?

That was the question Sade Dumas and I challenged nonprofit leaders to wrestle with at this year's AFP DFW Philanthropy in Action Conference.

One thing I hope everyone left believing:

We are not passive recipients of philanthropy.

Hundreds of millions of philanthropic dollars are on the line, and Texas has an opportunity to influence where that capital flows.

That starts with stronger relationships, strategic engagement with philanthropic intermediaries, and changing the narratives we tell about our communities.

Thank you, Sade, for an incredible partnership. Thank you to the AFP DFW Conference Committee for creating space for this important conversation. And thank you to everyone who showed up ready to think differently about the future of philanthropy in Texas.

The opportunity is here. Now it's up to all of us to help shape where capital goes next.
