One excercise entails being blindfolded and following radio commands, while going through an obstacle course.

🗺 Map Two Ways Out: Ensure every room has at least two clear, unblocked escape paths.

👟 Practice the Plan: Walk through your family’s escape route together so everyone knows what to do if an emergency happens.

Weather information 💨

💨 In addition to rain, winds are forecast to increase from the west/southwest on Friday behind the frontal passage. Chances for isolated, peak wind gusts of 50+ mph are 20-30% along the coast and 5-15% along the I-5 corridor. Gusts this strong could result in isolated power outages.

Make sure to secure outdoor items that could blow away.

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE

Dallas Fire & EMS Responds to Fatal Residential Structure Fire

Dallas, Oregon – September 19, 2026 — At approximately 6:19 p.m. on September 18, Dallas Fire & EMS was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 400 block of SE LaCreole Drive.

Upon arrival, firefighters learned that an occupant was still believed to be inside the residence. Firefighters immediately initiated rescue operations and located an adult male inside the home. Sadly, the individual succumbed to his injuries.

Fire crews also located two dogs inside the residence. Both dogs were safely removed from the home.

Firefighters had also received information that two additional occupants may have been inside the residence. A secondary search of the home was conducted, and no additional occupants were located. The two individuals were later contacted and confirmed to be safe.

Firefighters encountered challenging conditions at the scene that made both fire suppression and search operations difficult. The fire was contained, and crews remained on scene to complete operations.

Dallas Fire & EMS was assisted by Dallas Police Department, Polk Fire District, Southwest Polk Fire District, Falls City Fire and the Oregon State Fire Marshal. The American Red Cross was contacted and will be working with the family to provide assistance.

Dallas Fire & EMS would also like to recognize our department chaplain, who stepped in to assist the family during this difficult time while also providing support and care to our firefighters.

“Calls like this are never easy for our firefighters or our community. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family of the victim during this incredibly difficult time.”

Dallas Fire & EMS reminds everyone of the importance of having a home fire escape plan and ensuring that working smoke alarms are installed throughout the home. Know two ways out of every room, have a designated meeting place outside, and make sure your smoke alarms are working.

On September 11, 2001, firefighters and first responders ran toward danger as others were running away.

Hundreds of firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice that day, and thousands more have carried the physical and emotional effects of 9/11 in the years since.

❤️ We remember those who were lost.
🤍 We honor those who answered the call.
💙 We will never forget.
