♥️ WHEN IS IT TIME TO CONSIDER HOSPICE?

One of the biggest misconceptions about hospice is that choosing hospice means “giving up.”

It doesn’t.

Hospice means choosing comfort, dignity, and quality of life when curative treatment is no longer the primary goal.

Some signs it may be time to have the conversation include:

• Frequent hospitalizations or ER visits
• Increasing weakness or fatigue
• Significant weight loss or decreased appetite
• Difficulty managing symptoms
• More help needed with everyday activities
• A serious illness that continues to progress despite treatment

You don’t have to wait until a crisis to ask questions.

Sometimes the best time to learn about hospice is before you need it.

It’s finding comfort in the little moments.

The Practice of Holy Attention

Reflecting on Matthew 6:26 (ESV)

"Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

Jesus's invitation to "look" is more than visual observation; it's a call to holy attention, noticing what God provides, seeing what others overlook, attending to the present moment with awareness of God's care.

Hospice workers are trained in clinical attention, assessing symptoms, monitoring changes, reading non-verbal cues. But holy attention is different: it sees God's provision alongside clinical observation. It notices grace alongside decline. It perceives beauty alongside suffering.

Psychologically, the practice of mindful attention, being fully present to the current moment without judgment, reduces stress, improves emotional regulation, and enhances empathy. Holy attention adds a spiritual dimension: seeing the present moment as God-attended, every circumstance as God infused.

The birds neither sow nor reap, yet God feeds them. Jesus's point isn't that birds are lazy but that God provides. Holy attention notices provision that anxiety overlooks. When you're worried about having enough, energy, patience, strength holy attention sees what God has already supplied.

What would holy attention reveal in your work today? What provision are you overlooking because anxiety dominates your seeing? Look, really look at what God is providing. The birds are fed. You are valued. Notice.

1. How does holy attention differ from clinical observation?
2. What would you notice if you attended to the present moment with awareness of God's care?
3. What provision has anxiety caused you to overlook?
4. How might practicing holy attention change your daily experience?

Prayer:

Providing Father, who feeds birds and values us more, teach us holy attention. Help us to see Your provision alongside our anxiety, and to notice grace in the present moment. Open our eyes to what You are already providing. Amen.

💗 Remembering Dolly Parton 💗

Today, we say goodbye to a woman who gave the world so much more than music.

Dolly Parton’s voice filled generations with songs, but it was her heart that left an even greater legacy. She believed in kindness, helping others, giving hope, and making sure no one felt forgotten.

As a hospice family, we are reminded that a legacy isn’t measured only by awards, accomplishments, or how many people know your name.

It’s measured by the lives you touched.
The kindness you gave.
The comfort you provided.
The memories you left behind.
And the love that continues long after you’re gone.

Dolly spent her life bringing joy, compassion, laughter, and hope to others. What a beautiful legacy to leave behind. 💕

May she rest peacefully, surrounded by the love of those who meant the most to her.

Thank you for the music, Dolly.
Thank you for the kindness.
And thank you for reminding us to love a little bigger. 🕊️

✨ MEET WENDY ALEXANDER! ✨💗

We are so excited for you to get to know one of the amazing people behind MaxServe Hospice! Meet Wendy Alexander, Alternate Director of Nursing – DFW, with a concentration in the Dallas area, where she also case manages. 💕

Wendy’s journey into nursing is one of faith, courage, and a whole lot of heart. She became a nurse later in life — earning her BSN at 50 years young! 🫣👏 After previously working as a CNA in rehab and hospice, she took a leap of faith and accepted a nursing position with the same hospice where she had once worked as an aide.

Seven years later, Wendy is still going strong in hospice — and absolutely loves what she does. ❤️

She says she loves hospice because it allows her to truly spend time with patients and families, meet them where they are, and provide care without feeling rushed by the clock. She believes God called her to this work, and she gives Him all the praise for where her journey has taken her. 🙏🏻

Wendy also credits her MaxServe family for helping her take the next step into leadership. After turning down previous opportunities to move into administration because the timing never felt right, a conversation with Samantha gave her the confidence to finally take that leap. She says working under Brandon and Samantha has been one of the best experiences, and she is incredibly grateful for their support, patience, and willingness to teach her the ropes! 💗

And when Wendy isn’t busy caring for patients, families, and her MaxServe team…

👩‍👧‍👦 She is a proud mom of three grown children and a very proud Mimi to three grandsons!

💕 Her oldest daughter is her bestie, while her two sons are the men in her life who would drop everything to help Mom.

👵 Her 84-year-old mom moved in with her a year ago, and Wendy says it has been one of the best decisions ever. The two LOVE shopping together! 🛍️💗

🐾 She is a proud dog mom to two labs and a new sweet kitty addition to the family.

💗 Her favorite color is PINK — and according to Wendy, the more glitter, the better! ✨😂

🏝️ Her happy place is soaking up the sun by her backyard pool.

💎 She loves diamond art when she needs to give her brain a break from work.

📺 And her newest addiction? Love Island. 🏝️🤣

If you know Wendy, you already know she is bubbly, approachable, and always willing to help. Her philosophy is simple: If I can help, I will. And if I can’t, I’ll find out how! ❤️

If you think Samantha is the energetic one, meet the man who somehow keeps up with her. 😂

Brandon Kemper is the COO of Max Serve Hospice, an RN in his own right, and occasionally jumps into the field as a Case Manager—because apparently running a hospice company isn’t enough to keep him busy.

And then there’s the gym…

Verified Gym Bro. 💪😂
But don’t let the muscles fool you there’s actually a brain in there too. Shocking, we know. 🤣

But Brandon’s most important title?

DAD. ❤️

Don’t confuse this man with the PTA parent from the previous post. 😂
He may not be the one organizing the classroom fundraiser, but you can bet he is SHOWING UP.

School events? He’s there.
Kids’ activities? He’s there.
Family events? He’s there.
Stars hockey games? 🏒 CLEAR YOUR CALENDAR Brandon is there.

Between running a hospice company, caring for patients, staying ridiculously committed to the gym, supporting his wife, and being present for his kids, we’re honestly starting to wonder if Brandon has discovered how to add hours to the day.

And that’s what makes him such an important part of the Max Serve family.
