New equipment also means new training. When the Whitfield County Fire Department (WCFD) added two rescue boats to its fleet, the next step was to put them to the test.

With help from Trident Rescue and CEO David Cruz, county firefighters participated in a 30-hour rescue boat operations course, along with command and control training. The course covered basic boat operations, maneuvering in moving water, rescue techniques and nighttime operations.

As first responders continue serving Whitfield County, it is essential that Whitfield County Fire Department has the tools needed to respond effectively in emergencies. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® has recognized this need and recently awarded the department a $39,758 grant to purchase rescue boats.

Whitfield County has experienced flooding that has left residents trapped in their homes with limited access for first responders. The purchase of rescue boats will provide the county with the equipment needed to safely conduct water rescues, evacuate residents during flood events, and respond to other water-related emergencies. These boats will improve response times in life-threatening situations, help protect lives and property, and strengthen the county's ability to provide mutual aid to neighboring jurisdictions when needed.

The Whitfield County Fire Department is currently on scene of a structure fire on Reed Road. The City of Dalton and Catoosa County Fire Departments are assisting due to extreme heat. Hamilton EMS is on scene monitoring the firefighters.

No injuries are reported at this time.

Please avoid the area and plan an alternate route.

2. Winco Fireworks International - Unity 7 Shot 200 Gram Aerial Cake Fireworks : Recalled due to risk of serious injury from explosion and burn hazards

3. Bada Boom Fireworks - Pyro Diablo “Diablo Rising” Fireworks: Recalled due to risk of serious injury or death from explosion and burn hazards. These items also violate the federal fireworks ban.

The Whitfield County Fire Department (WCFD) is reminding anyone planning a public firework display that Georgia law requires a permit prior to the event.

Permit applications must be submitted to WCFD at least ten (10) days before and include a $100 fee.

"We want everyone to enjoy their celebrations and have a safe and successful holiday," said Fire Chief Paul Patterson. "The permit process helps ensure fireworks are used responsibly and with consideration for surrounding homes, businesses, and the community."

The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners and the Whitfield County Fire Department (WCFD) are announcing the implementation of a new Outdoor Burning Ordinance, including a seasonal burn ban for unincorporated Whitfield County.

The seasonal burn ban will be in effect annually from June 1st through September 30th. During this period, the burning of yard debris, leaves, limbs, land-clearing debris, and construction materials will be prohibited. Recreational fires, cooking fires, grills, smokers, fire pits, and approved outdoor fireplaces will still be allowed when operated safely and in accordance with the ordinance.

Last week, Whitfield County Fire representatives were at the FDIC International in Indianapolis at the Lakeland turn out gear booth to preview the departments new look!

The uniforms shift from tan to black, with the same level of protection our firefighters depend on everyday.
