You could be doing everything right in the sun and still burn faster than usual. Certain common medicines can make your skin far more sensitive to sunlight, including some antibiotics, a few acne treatments, and certain water pills. That means quicker burning and more damage from the same amount of sun. Many people have no idea their medicine does this.
