Just inspected this house that had spray foam, insulating the attic sheathing. The problem is that the attic boards formed condensation under the foam. The foam was a wet sponge on the wood and after a short period of time, mold and leaks formed. Spray foam in attics can also cause high VOC's, high relative humidity in the home and high carbon dioxide levels. Before hiring a contractor to insulate your attic, consider hiring and independent BPI certified consultant to advise the contractor and what, where and how much insulation to use in combination with proper ventilation. The proper balance is important to avoid mold and to protect the indoor air quality in your home.

I have seen some pretty bad mold but I am not sure if I have ever seen walls this black with mold. I wouldn't scramble eggs in this kitchen!

If you see this on the lower doors, under chairs, on furniture and even picture frames, it is a good chance there are high elevations of mold in the breathing air. Best thing is to leave it alone so it is not accidentally spread and to give us a call. 203 628 2227

Abandoned house may going into foreclosure. The people left everything behind. The house sat vacant for a year. One of the worst homes I have seen since we started the company.

Surface and air sampling. We capture outdoor air to establish a baseline. Then we capture indoor air to see if there are elevations indoors. The cassettes are sent to a laboratory for analysis. The data can help us locate sources and zero in on cross contamination to assist with our protocol.
