🔥 FIRE CAN SPREAD IN 4 WAYS!

Fire can spread even without flames directly touching nearby objects. Understanding how heat travels helps us recognize fire hazards.

4 WAYS FIRE CAN SPREAD:

1. Direct Flame Contact – Flames directly touch and ignite combustible materials.

2. Conduction – Heat travels through materials, such as metal pipes, beams, and other solid objects.

3. Convection – Moving hot gases and smoke carry heat through rooms, stairways, and openings.

4. Radiation – Heat travels across a distance and can ignite nearby combustible materials without direct contact.

⚠️ FIRE SAFETY REMINDER:

Flames don’t have to reach another room for it to become dangerous. Heat and hot gases can spread ahead of visible flames.

Understanding how heat transfers helps firefighters anticipate fire spread, protect exposures, and make safer decisions during operations.

Know how fire spreads. Know how to prevent it.

🔥 Need a burn permit? There's now an easier way to get one!

Beginning TODAY, the Georgia Forestry Commission is offering a new online burn permit system, making it more convenient to obtain permits for eligible agricultural, land-clearing and silvicultural burns.

💻 Apply from your computer or phone.
⏰ Available daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
📅 Permits are issued for the current day only.

The new system follows the same local restrictions and safety requirements already in place. If burning isn't permitted in your area or for your burn category that day, the system will let you know.

One important note: Certified Prescribed Burn Managers requesting silvicultural permits must enter their certification number. Those without a number will be directed to contact GFC for assistance.

And remember, permits are not required for hand-piled natural vegetation, but Georgia's SSTAR safety requirements still apply.

"Don't forget, Hotdog Sale starts at 5pm!!!!

"Shiloh Community Volunteer Fire Department will host a Hot Dog Sale on Friday October 2nd at SVFD Station 1, 2149 Jones Chapel-Shiloh Road, at the intersection with State Highway 174.

The Hotdog sale will be held from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Hot dogs, chili dogs, chips, drinks and drinks will be available for purchase.

We respectfully ask that everyone please understand each order is carefully prepared when placed. So, if the person in front of you orders 29 Hotdogs, it may take us a few minutes to get to your order. So, please be patient.

We only accept cash or checks. No credit cards or mobile payments are accepted. All proceeds will go to support fire department equipment and operational needs.

Please come out to this family friendly fundraising event, visit with your friends and neighbors, and help support your local volunteer fire department.

Also, the Shiloh Community VFD is looking for citizens willing to become volunteer firefighters and help protect our community.
