Please share this post far and wide, and help if you are so led....Ziggy's is my local charity, located in Providence. They do such good things for special needs farm animals, and have just taken on the task of housing 60 of over 200 pigs from a horrible hoarding case. Feed and medicines are expensive, they are having to pay for extra helpers to work. It's a train wreck. We need to get the word out quick, which is why I'm asking to have this post shared as far as we can get it. There are many many other animals and pigs from this case being housed at a couple other sanctuaries....this isn't the only batch.

We've all had several days to prepare. How many of you learned how to turn off your main water supply? You should know how to do that in case a pipe freezes and you start to flood. I have already been out today fixing an avoidable freeze up...someone left a hose attached to the spigot. Yes, I was bit cranky with them because it's Saturday and they already knew better....anyway....I'm home now and finally thawed out. My chickens, pig, cats and dogs are all cozy and warm. The generator has been tested and is ready. This is the point of no return....I will not be going out on emergency calls. I do not own a snowmobile...if you can't get out, plumbers can't get out. Take some time now to locate that water main shut off....we are all pretty much on our own in this storm.

Here we go folks...a storm is predicted for next weekend. It's got the possibility of bringing crippling ice and/or snow depths. It also going to be cold. Make sure you do the following NOW instead of waiting. Go get groceries before Friday...make sure your generators run and get gas for them, if you're on a well... stow some water, bring in your firewood, Check the level of oil or propane in your tank outside and call now if you need some, make arrangements for pets and livestock, stock up on pet foods and livestock feed, find the snow shovel, have sidewalk salt on hand, make arrangements now for the kids to be off school, make sure your elderly folks have enough food and supplies in case you can't get to them...keep your phones charged, put a heat lamp or tape on your pipes....and for the love of all that is holy....disconnect your hoses from the spigots.

Icy areas outside? Don't let the pets and Granny flip upside down in the snow...a safe alternative is plain old table salt. It won't burn pet feet and ruin your floors like Ice Melt types will. It's also very cheap and easy to carry home! We stock up on it every winter. I'm not letting my pets contact commercial sidewalk salt...it's toxic, and remember they lick their feet when it starts burning them!

Pink Plumber's sponsored charity is in dire need of volunteers to dedicate a day or two a week to being a personal attendant for Moko! This has always been a coveted job on the farm. Can you sit in the hot tub with a sheep? Can you help guide him while he drives his new electric cart around the grounds? This is a job that concentrates solely on Moko for the day. He needs full time companionship. You MUST be dedicated and dependable. There can't be any missed days because Moko MUST have his partner. Tired of lugging home cases of bottled drinking water? Did you know you can make your own right at home? Bottled drinking water is simply water that has been filtered by Reverse Osmosis. You can get your own RO system that installs under your kitchen sink...for less than $200. This is the system that I have in my kitchen, and we are loving it. I've also installed several of them for customers that love them. It comes with an extra set of filter cartridges for your first annual filter change.
