I had the pleasure of attending the Rotary Club of Mobile yesterday, where Matt Armbuster was the guest speaker. Matt, alongside his wife Tara, founded Random Ministries with a powerful vision: to help break the cycles of crime, poverty, and addiction that so many individuals find themselves trapped in.
Ransom Ministries began offering on-the-job training in January 2019 through Ransom Recycling, an electronics recycling business that grew naturally out of the services they were already providing. In 2021, they expanded their impact by establishing Ransom Staffing, a temporary employment agency that allows participants to continue building on the foundation started through Ransom’s programs while gaining the skills and experience needed to successfully re-enter the workforce.
In partnership with the City of Mobile - Government and the Waterfront Rescue Mission, Ransom launched the “Road to Work” program in 2022. This initiative provides individuals experiencing homelessness with employment opportunities focused on removing trash and debris from local roadways. After 90 days, participants have the option to continue their journey as trainees within Ransom’s programs.
All of Ransom’s initiatives are designed to fulfill their mission: empowering individuals who have experienced homelessness, addiction, and incarceration, while also providing innovative solutions to community challenges and helping conserve the environment for future generations.
One of the most impressive takeaways from Matt’s talk was their success rate—an inspiring 85%.
