SPEAC Success: Authentic Communication & Public Speaking Training

SPEAC Success: Authentic Communication & Public Speaking Training To SPEAC Success (speek suhk-cess) is to show up and speak out boldly, brilliantly and as your truest self. Greetings! This bold move transformed my life.

It’s the magic that happens when you lead with passion, speak with purpose, and offer a perspective that only you can bring. I'm Shannon, a communication nerd, entrepreneur, best-selling author and TEDx speaker who is passionate about empowering individuals find their authentic voice, hone their message and share it with unwavering confidence. I specialize in helping entrepreneurs and executives t

hrough individual and group coaching, workshops and custom programs for organizations. After 15 years in the rigid structure of highly regulated industries, despite my Master’s degree in Interpersonal Communication and a wealth of public speaking skills, I felt trapped in an inauthentic presentation style. My polished, corporate persona didn’t connect with audiences the way I hoped. One day, I decided to break free from these constraints and embrace my true self. I began sharing my story and speaking from the heart. I found my authentic voice and started forming genuine connections. Opportunities, clients, and collaborators naturally gravitated towards me, leading to a fulfilling career. Now, I am dedicated to helping others do the same—unleash their authentic voice and communicate with confidence.

You got promoted because you were good at your job. Then suddenly, you were expected to know how to manage people, too.

The problem? Most new managers were never actually taught how.

Gartner research found that 85% of new people managers receive no formal training before stepping into the role.

So if managing people feels like something you’re figuring out as you go, you’re far from the only one.

This week’s SPEAC of the Week breaks down where that lack of training tends to show up most and what you can do about it.

💬 Managing people is a skill. And skills can be learned.

🐾 Rover Says: A friendly face can make all the difference!

Before speaking in front of a crowd, try practicing in front of someone you’re comfortable with. A supportive audience gives you a chance to hear yourself out loud, settle into your message, and build confidence without all the pressure.

Friends, family, coworkers... or a very attentive pup all count. 🐶🎤

Who would you choose as your practice audience?

🎤 Meet the voices taking the stage at Drop The Mic Night!

On October 22, ten speakers will step up to the mic to share their stories, their perspectives, and a little bit of hope.

Each speaker brings something completely different to the stage, but they all have one thing in common: a story worth hearing.

And this night is about more than the stories on stage. ❤️ Drop The Mic Night is a nonprofit event benefiting Make-A-Wish Connecticut this year, helping grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses.

Come hear these ten incredible speakers, cheer them on, and be part of a night of courage, connection, community, and hope.

🎟️ Tickets are on sale now with the Early Bird discount ending Sunday! Join us October 22 at CoCreate in Stamford, CT.

We’ve all been there. Sitting in a room, fighting to stay awake while a presenter reads their slides word for word. So we decide to read the slides on our own later, and turn to Candy Crush to pass the time.

Gut check: Are you that presenter?

Even if you don’t put every word on your slides and read them aloud, it’s possible you’re creating “beautifully designed” slides that are stealing your shine.

This week I broke down two examples of ineffective slide design, what's wrong with each, and what to do instead (pics included). If you'd like an even deeper breakdown, we're hosting a SlideLab September 17th in Old Greenwich, CT from 1 PM-5PM.

Your heart is racing. Your stomach is flipping. Your hands are shaky.

You must be nervous…right?

Maybe. But there might be another way to interpret what your body is telling you.

When one of Shannon’s clients was ready to back out of speaking in front of his employees, he tried one small reframe instead. He walked into the room and gave one of his best presentations in a long time.

In this week’s blog, Shannon breaks down the research behind reframing speaking anxiety as excitement and how you can try it before your next meeting or presentation.

Think you don't have a story worth telling? 👀

You probably do.

Think about a moment that changed the way you see something. A lesson you learned the hard way. A time you found light when you weren't sure what came next.

💭 Where did you find hope?

There's a story in there.

And it might be exactly what someone else needs to hear. ❤️

This year's Drop The Mic Night theme is HOPE, and we want to hear what that means to you.

Think about the last time you felt genuinely comfortable speaking in front of other people.

Maybe you were giving a presentation, sharing an idea in a meeting, telling a personal story, or simply speaking up when you normally would have stayed quiet.

What made it feel safe?

Confidence matters, but so does the environment we create for one another. A supportive audience, an encouraging face, or simply knowing that people want to hear what you have to say can make it a little easier to use your voice.

What helps you feel safe enough to speak?

This October, take the stage, share your story, and be part of an event giving back. Proceeds from Drop the Mic Night will benefit Make-A-Wish Connecticut. 💙⭐

Applications close Sunday, August 23, so don’t miss your chance.
