Spring has sprung. It is time to finalize your plans for Gypsy
Moth aka Spongy Moth spraying for May of 2025.

Here are some maps from a recent PA DCNR Bureau of Forestry presentation. They show the 2024 defoliation and the egg mass
site survey for Gypsy Moth aka Spongy Moth that will hatch in
April/May 2025.

The egg mass survey sites are on PA State Land and not on private property so you must interpolate to estimate your site.

These four Gypsy Moth maps are from the Pa Game Commission and PA DCNR , Bureau of Forestry. They depict the GM situation in PA going into Spring of 2022.

Tallman Aerial Spraying will be spraying privately owned forest land especially in Blair, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, and Lycoming counties in 2022.

There is still time in March to contract with us for timely spraying in May. It is very difficult to assure timely spraying if we don’t plan now.

P. S. Starting March 1 our government agencies will begin calling the Gypsy Moth only either it’s Taxonomic name ( Lymantria Dispar) or (Spongy Moth )following Canadian precedent. Why you ask? Because the Roma peoples of Europe object to their name being associated with an invasive species poorly thought of in the U. S. and Canada ??

This is nuts ! After 45 years, for me and my company , they will still be called Gypsy Moths and we will be spraying with safe insecticides that have labels that specify dose rates and instructions for Gypsy Moth.

Our Spring 2021 Gypsy Moth Spraying Program has been underway for 2 weeks.

The caterpillars are small but are feeding.
Timing is still good for spraying to avoid:
—-Tree Stress
——-Economic Loss
———Health Issues (rashes, etc.)
————Great Nuisance Factors.

Gypsy Moth Spraying will be needed in some areas of Pennsylvania and New York in Spring of 2021. There was very little need for spraying Gypsy Moth in 2020 but the GM numbers were multiplying. The Pennsylvania DCNR , Bureau of Forestry plans to spray over 200,000 acres of State and Federal owned land in 2021. We can help you plan for Spring 2021 Spraying. This is the new paved 2750’ x 40’ Tobias Memorial Airport near Halifax , PA. This was a Fall project to pave this grass runway originally built in the early 70’s by local entrepreneur J. R. Tobias and his great family. We helped with the paving project and will have the privilege of using the new paved runway.

Gypsy Moth Caterpillars seen hatching and on the egg mass on Monday, 5/11/20 , in Luzerne County, PA. They were shivering in the unseasonably cold weather. Later this week the weather will warm up. They will climb up the tree. Then string down on their silken thread to blow all over in their annual “dispersal “ stage of growth. Soon time to spray when they are done dispersing and start feeding on the new leaves.
