Jessica Simpson originally shared the picture on the left 6 years ago when her sober journey began. Yesterday she reshared it saying “6 years ago.” 👇
Here is the caption from that original post “This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself. I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity. Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted. I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward- never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.
I can’t believe it has been 4yrs! It feels like maybe 2. I think that is a good thing. Ha. There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic. The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage. The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power. Today I do. I have made nice with the fears and I have accepted the parts of my life that are just sad. I own my personal power with soulful courage. I am wildly honest and comfortably open. I am free.” ❤️

This post has been fact checked by Reuters and determined to be False.

From Reuters: "A story online about the wife of a veteran who was able to get a teaching certificate just by observing teachers for 12 hours misrepresents the state’s requirements; spouses of veterans must meet all the normal requirements for a teaching certificate, including a college degree, however they can apply to have the $75 certificate application fee waived. A separate scheme called the Military Veteran Certification Pathway allows veterans, but not their spouses, with at least 60 college credits to apply for a temporary teaching certificate. However, they also must fulfill the requirements for a professional certificate, such as obtaining a Bachelor’s degree, within five years.

here are several indications the post is false, such as the fact that it was posted before schools in Florida reopened for the year (here). The Military Veterans Certification Pathway has only been in place since July, 2022, and the earliest versions of the posts Reuters could find was from that month. A representative of the Florida Education Association (feaweb.org/), an education workers’ labor union, told Reuters by email that on the dates the posts were made (July 2022), there would be nothing for a veteran’s wife to observe for two hours in a classroom.

More importantly, the post inaccurately describes the requirements for military spouses to become teachers in Florida, which are largely the same as for any member of the public, except for the waiving of a $75 application fee.

The claim that a military spouse would be able to become a teacher with minimal training is “completely false”, Cassie Palelis, Press Secretary with the Florida Department of Education, told Reuters by email. “The Military Veteran Certification Pathway is not available for spouses of military veterans.”

The Military Veteran Certification Pathway allows military veterans with at least 48 months of active duty military service, a minimum of 60 college credits with a 2.5 grade point average, and other conditions to apply for a 5-year Temporary Certificate allowing them to teach in schools (here).

While this has drawn criticism, such as arguments it lowers the standards needed to become a teacher and that a completed degree is not required (here) (here), the pathway applies only to veterans.
“It seems that some people have conflated these two ideas,” Joni Branch, a spokesperson for the Florida Education Association told Reuters by email. “Spouses of military veterans still have to meet all of the normal requirements in order to obtain a teaching certificate, it is just that they will be able to receive a fee waiver if/when applying for a teaching certificate.”
VERDICT False. Spouses of veterans still need a college degree to qualify for a teaching cert in Florida."
