We are thrilled to announce that Kelly McGuire, Principal and co-founder of Far Western, has been named the winner of Terrain.org’s 16th annual poetry, nonfiction, and fiction contest in the nonfiction category. His winning piece, “Entanglement,” was praised by judges as “engaging and intelligent, at once well conceived and made.” We couldn’t be more proud to see Kelly’s insight and craft recognized.

Some snapshots from last week's Campus wide Cultural Awareness Training in collaboration with the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation on the UC Davis Campus.

Far Western's very own Lauré Kwoka and Nick Longo came to UC Davis last week to help co-host a cultural awareness training for campus employees that highlighted the importance of respecting cultural materials and working with local tribal leaders to identify, preserve and protect Patwin language, culture, and sites in Yolo County.

Dive into history with Far Westerns Underwater Archaeology team! 🤿

Meet our team of certified divers, that combine divers and the use of side-scan sonar with remotely operated vehicles to map underwater terrain and to identifiy submerged resources.

Our team has successfully completed underwater surveys along the coast of San Diego, San Francisco Bay, Sacramento River, Folsom Lake, and Lake Tahoe! They are experienced in documenting maritime cultural landscapes, shipwrecks, and submerged pre contact sites!
