I just finished volunteering (with travel funds from Academics Without Borders) my technical support at the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala's Centro de Estudio Atitlan. They've been researching the lake for about 15 years. Beautiful terrain and super nice people, but there's lots of work ahead addressing the shortages of trash & sewage collection and institutional controls in the face of continued population growth. I look forward to helping this group more in the future.

Here's some good news from congress! I've advocated for this sort of Good Samaritan legislation for decades, so it's great to see it finally happening. Hopefully this will turn the tide from government inhibiting abandoned mine site cleanups to encouraging them.
