I just spent a great week volunteering as travel mentor in Peru with a group of UCD students for Engineers Without Borders. We visited 3 recent water supply project sites near San Marcos, and a prospective project far to the north. Not a tourist destination, but scenic and lots of cultural history anyway.

Here's a blast from the past (pun intended)...Data from one of my research projects in graduate school (30 years ago, on a couple of lakes in Cameroon that exploded CO2 gas) was included in this recent publication: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41597-026-06751-0. It was interesting being one of 70-ish co-authors.

UC Davis is piloting a Hypolimnetic Oxygenation System (HOS) in the Oaks Arm of Clear Lake to improve water quality. By adding oxygen to deep waters, this approach targets the root cause of harmful algal blooms and helps restore a healthier lake.

A few weeks ago I was invited to the UCD campus to reflect on what I would say to my younger college engineering student self for their "Give Day" video. I had fun thinking about it (and looking back over college-day photos), but somehow when the cameraman pointed at me I got all serious!
