Pro Tip: Before you buy a new door, ask what comes with it.

"A door" can mean a few different things. Sometimes it's just the slab. Sometimes it comes already hung in its frame. Hardware and trim may or may not be part of it.

Two prices for the "same" door can look far apart for that reason alone.

This is where people get stuck. The door shows up, and then there's a second trip for the parts nobody mentioned.

What's included depends on the product and the job. It's worth asking before you compare prices, not after.

Stock changes throughout the week. A size or style that was available a few days ago is not guaranteed to still be there today.

A quick call before you build a schedule around a product saves the schedule from moving later.

The only thing that changed was the door.

Before: a painted six-panel door with narrow sidelights and a small transom. Nothing wrong with it. It just kept most of the daylight outside.

After: a pair of wood doors with divided glass on both sides. Black handles in place of brass. Light reaches all the way into the entry now.

A molded door has raised panel detail worked into the surface. It reads as a more traditional look, closer to what most homes already have throughout.

A flush door is flat from edge to edge. No panel lines, no raised detail. It tends to suit a more modern or minimal style.

Neither one is right for every house. It usually comes down to what the rest of the trim and doors in the home are already doing.

A door that's drafty around the edges usually just needs new weatherstripping. That's a simple fix, not a sign of a bigger problem.

Look closer if the frame has warped, the corners don't sit square anymore, or the door has swollen from moisture that never fully dries out. Those point to the whole unit, not just a part of it.

Rust on a steel door, or wood that's soft and spongy to the touch, are usually beyond a patch fix.

If more than one of these shows up at once, replacing is often the more straightforward path.
