Here's some free advice for my followers that do their own bookkeeping...

👇DO THIS AT MONTH-END👇

💳 Reconcile your accounts.

I'm talking bank accounts, credit cards, petty cash, inventory, fixed assets, etc.

Make sure all the activity that happened in your business this past month is accurately reflected on your books!

🔢 Review your financial reports.

Consider your financial reports like the report card of your business. Do you have an A+ in cash flows or are you falling behind?

📈 Compare your actual expenses to your budget.

It's okay if you stray from your budget, but it's NOT okay to not understand the reason behind the differences.

💸 Set aside money for taxes.

If you aren't automatically setting aside a portion of your income for taxes as it comes in, you need to be doing this at the end of every month.

Owing taxes and not having the money is a painful spot to be in!

👉 Enter all bank transactions through your most recent bank statement
👉 Pay any overdue bills and follow up on any unpaid customer invoices
👉 Reconcile your bank and credit card statements with your books
👉 Ensure your tax accountant has all the tax documents they’ve requested
👉 Review your P&L for unnecessary expenses (like unused subscriptions)

📆 TAX DUE DATE: Partnership and S Corporation tax returns are due on March 15th.

PRO TIP: If you think you're going to end up needing to extend a business tax return that flows through to your personal return, it's probably a good idea to extend your personal tax return now too!
