New tax laws can bring new opportunities for taxpayers but unfortunately, they can also create new opportunities for scammers.

The IRS is warning taxpayers about scams related to the One, Big, Beautiful Bill. Some of the schemes to watch for include:

• Tax preparers promising unusually large or guaranteed refunds
• False claims involving new tip and overtime deductions
• Scams telling seniors they must “enroll” or pay a fee to receive a deduction
• Emails, texts or calls claiming you are “pre-approved” for a new tax benefit
• Offers to expedite an IRS refund for a fee
• Social media posts promoting supposed tax “loopholes” or claiming everyone qualifies for a particular benefit

A good rule of thumb: Be cautious anytime someone asks for personal or financial information, guarantees a refund, or asks you to pay a fee to activate, enroll in or expedite a tax benefit.

Staying informed is one of the best ways to protect yourself.

FS-2026-08, March 2026 ― The One, Big, Beautiful Bill introduces new and expanded tax benefits. While these changes may help taxpayers, they can also create confusion, especially during the first filing season when they apply. Scammers often exploit uncertainty surrounding new laws.

If you filed for a tax extension this year, you don’t have to wait until the October 15 deadline to file your return.

The IRS recently shared five helpful reminders for extension filers, including:

• Gather and review your tax documents to help avoid errors and delays.
• Check whether you qualify for IRS Free File.
• Know what to look for if you’re choosing a tax professional.
• Don’t wait until the last minute to file.
• If you owe taxes and can’t pay the full balance, explore available IRS payment options.

One important reminder: **An extension to file is not an extension to pay.** If you owe taxes, paying as much as possible can help reduce potential interest and late-payment penalties.

**Be careful where you calculate your tax savings.**

The IRS is warning taxpayers about fake tax deduction calculators that may try to take advantage of recent tax law changes. These tools can make unrealistic promises about large refunds or new deductions while attempting to collect sensitive personal and financial information.

A few important reminders from the IRS: use trusted sources, double-check website addresses, and be cautious of any calculator that guarantees an unusually large refund. Legitimate tax calculators provide estimates—not guaranteed payouts.

Take a few minutes to learn what to watch for and how to protect your information:

**Did You Know?** ❤️

Your generosity can make a real difference—but unfortunately, scammers often take advantage of people's willingness to help.

The IRS is reminding taxpayers to be on the lookout for **fake charities** and other charitable contribution scams. Before making a donation:

✔️ Verify that the organization is a qualified tax-exempt charity.
✔️ Keep receipts and documentation of your contributions.
✔️ Be cautious of organizations that pressure you to donate immediately or make promises that sound too good to be true.
✔️ If you're donating non-cash items, be sure to accurately document their fair market value. ([IRS][1])

Taking a few extra minutes to verify a charity can help ensure your donation goes where you intend—and protect you from potential tax and identity theft scams.
