Unfortunately we had a customer lose around $1000 by the bail bonds scam earlier this year. The way they paid they were not able to recover the money. Its easy for scammers to take advantage of anyone these days.

The Rhea County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens about two scams being reported in our community tonight.

SCAM #1: “YOU’VE WON A CAR!”

Scammers are contacting individuals claiming they have won a vehicle. They may ask for money or personal information before allowing the individual to claim the prize. If you receive one of these calls, do not send money or provide any personal information.

SCAM #2: FAKE JAIL BOND CALLS

Scammers are using names of individuals listed on our jail website to contact their family members. They are posing as employees of the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office and claiming that money must be sent to bond their loved ones out of jail.

These calls are fraudulent!

Please remember:

Never send money to someone who unexpectedly contacts you demanding payment.

Never provide banking information, credit card numbers, or other personal information over the phone.

Do not trust a caller simply because they know the name of someone who is currently in jail.

Scammers can disguise their phone numbers to make calls appear legitimate.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office directly using a verified phone number.

The Sheriff’s Office will never require you to send bond money to an employee through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or personal payment apps.

We are asking everyone to PLEASE SHARE THIS WARNING, especially with elderly family members, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to these scams.

These scammers are taking advantage of innocent people and their families. We want to make sure our citizens are aware of these tactics and do not become victims.

If you receive one of these calls, please report it to the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office.

🚧 TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE

The City of Dayton would like to inform motorists that the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Court Street will be closed Wednesday, October 14, through Sunday, October 18, in preparation for and during the Tales Among the Oaks Storytelling Festival.

Parking will remain available for early voting at the Rhea County Courthouse throughout the closure.

Please use caution when traveling downtown and plan accordingly.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we welcome this exciting event to downtown Dayton!

When we are on the side of the road loading it takes us twice as long to load than it should by having to watch for people not paying attention or just simply not moving over. If your unable to move over just slow down a little.

All it takes is making 1 mistake in the lane next to us and we're gone. We would like to make it home after every call.

Still looking. Had a few inquiries but unfortunately they live to quite a ways outside of the city.

We will have a video up in a few days of a recovery with our winch box. It was about 30 miles from the shop and 2.5 miles in the woods. We got caught in a monsoon as soon as we got to the forklift. It made for an interesting day and took alot longer than we planned.
