After retiring from corporate America, here’s what I’d tell anyone starting their career. Show up. Stay teachable. Work hard even when no one is watching. Respect everyone. Protect your reputation. Don’t chase titles. Chase skills. The habits you build early will carry you farther than any promotion. Your character is the real currency. Build it with intention.

Sometimes the smallest moments teach the biggest lessons. I was drinking a Slurpee today and it reminded me how much balance and speed matter in our growth. Drink it too fast and you get brain freeze. Move too fast in life and you feel the pain. Drink it with the wrong ratio and you get all ice or pure sugar. Live with the wrong balance and you get the same result. Too much of one thing and not enough of another.

We have to enjoy life at the right speed so we can actually experience it. We have to build the right balance so we can savor the process. We are all living life for the first time. We are all trying to figure it out. The goal is not perfection. The goal is awareness. Slow down. Pay attention. Find your balance. Enjoy the moment you are in.

The rooms you walk into will change your life long before the results show up. Growth happens when you put yourself around people who think bigger and operate at a higher level. Proximity creates perspective. Perspective creates opportunity. When you show up, engage, and connect with leaders who are building at scale, you start to see what is possible for you. Your next level is not just about talent. It is about visibility, relationships, and being present in the right environments. Keep stepping into rooms that stretch you. Your future is built by the conversations you are willing to have today.

Sometimes you have to understand the game you’re playing. We overcomplicate things that should be simple, and we oversimplify things that require strategy. Rugby and American football look similar, but they’re not the same. Softball and baseball look similar, but they’re not the same. Tennis and ping pong look similar, but they’re not the same.

Life works the same way. Every day you’re navigating different systems, different environments, and different expectations. You have to make sure you’re playing the right game at the right time. That’s how you stay effective.

Take a step back. Study the game. Study the environment. Study your surroundings. When you understand the game you’re actually in, you position yourself to win today.

You have a problem and I know exactly what it is because I had the same one. You have talent. Real talent. But you’re not visible. You’re hiding in plain sight. People can’t value what they can’t see.

You have to show your gifts at work and outside of work so people understand who you are, what you do, and why you’re valuable. Show your value. Show the light you’ve always had. Visibility is part of leadership.

If you love art, do art. But show people the creative process. You don’t have to be great yet. People want to see you getting better. They want to see the journey. They want to see the growth. Perfection is not the goal right now. Progress is.

A true leader doesn’t treat their flaws like barriers. They treat them like weight. Weight makes you stronger. Weight builds discipline. Weight builds character.

Stop hiding. Start showing. Bring people with you as you grow.

Your laziness is not going to forget to send the bill. Whatever you’re procrastinating on right now will eventually charge you for every delay, every excuse, and every moment you avoided taking action. The cost always shows up later.

So let’s get to it. Stay on it. One small step at a time. Laziness makes tasks look bigger than they really are. It convinces you that something will take forever, but once you start, you realize it doesn’t. Just get it done. You’ll feel better. You’ll build momentum. You’ll break the cycle.

Small actions today prevent big consequences tomorrow. Stay consistent. Stay intentional. Stay accountable.

Stop focusing on the end of the journey. Focus on the next step you can take. The next step is where your power is. The next step is where your growth happens. The next step is where God meets you with clarity and direction.

Use God’s light and your knowledge to make the best next step you can. If it’s right, you move forward. If it’s wrong, you adjust and keep going. Just like flying a plane, small adjustments keep you on course. You don’t stay aligned by accident. You stay aligned by paying attention to the next step in front of you.

Sometimes you drift off course. That’s normal. What matters is that you keep making small corrections. Small adjustments prevent big problems later. Big problems only show up when we stop paying attention to the next step.

Stay present. Stay intentional. Stay adjustable. The journey is built one step at a time.

Day 23 of the Intentionalism Challenge. Strengthen one relationship today. It only takes one connection to change your life forever. Stop overlooking the people already in your circle. Check on someone. Send a birthday message. Reach out just to see how they’re doing. One person a day. One intentional touchpoint. It costs nothing but time, and the right conversation can give you the one word or one piece of advice that shifts your entire future. Build the relationships that build you.
