Mint Gold # MG021 will probably lead the Suffolk auction for the Center of the Nation Sale on 25th of July at the fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa. This ram is currently the second highest ram lamb of all time for Carcass+. And with this crop of lambs the sire 23866 jumped a full 13 points in C+ to 188.8. Therefore, father and son are currently one and three in Carcass+ over all time. Carcass+ is the growth, muscle mass and fat index. MG 021 had an adj. loin eye of 3.92in2, the twin scanned 3.40. And 23866 the sire had an adj. scan of 4.05. Two grandsires adj. scans were 4.50 and 4.08 in2. As you can see 25 years scanning loin eyes can put consistency in offspring. But performance doesn't stop there, between weaning and scanning this ram had 1.65 lbs average daily gain, our highest this year.

We are pleased to offer this outstanding ram for sale at the National Ram Sale. He is Lot #151 in the sale. Banner Butte 732 (NSIP #6901352023230732 9.2PWWT, 1.7 PEMD, Carcass+ 172.9) is an excellent proven ram with 60 offspring and is the third generation of top Suffolk rams of all time. His grandsire, the General (BH 3405), has 181 offspring in the NSIP system. Talking with several breeders who have used the General, we all agreed that his daughters are perfect ewes. They have perfect udders and milk well. Also his Carcass + index is in the top 3% of the breed. The Admiral ( BB 701) is the sire of BB 732 and the son of The General and has a Carcass + of 185. When I picked out the BB 732 as my next stud ram, I saw that the twin ewe lamb to BB732 also had an excellent loineye. BB 732 and BB 731 had scans of 4.60 in2 and 4.53 in2 both adjusted to 135 lbs. That is a very impressive set of twins. Also BB 732 had a rate of gain of 1.77 lbs per day. So, not only are the Grandsire and sire renowned in the breed , BB 732 has proven that he is following in their footsteps. BB 732 is from the Suffolk GAP program at 89.5%. Meaning if he is bred to 100% Suffolk ewes, all of their offspring would be 100% registered Suffolk. BB 732 has an excellent temperament and is very easy to handle. He is RR for scrapie resistance. We have used him in our flock for two seasons and he is ready to move on to help improve someone else’s flock.

We are very busy trying to get ready for the Center of the Nation Sale in Spencer, Iowa next weekend. We will be taking 10 high quality animals to the sale - 6 rams and 4 ewes; but haven't yet had time to post the info to our website. This group of Dec. and Jan. ewe lambs have been exposed to a ram for 3 months. They just came off pasture and are ready for a trip to a new home.
