People don’t disengage because they don’t care.
They disengage when they can’t see the impact of their work.

Google’s Project Aristotle studied more than 180 teams to understand what makes some teams successful while others struggle.

One of the strongest findings?
People perform better when they understand their work matters.

That’s why recognition is so important.

Recognition isn’t just about awards or annual reviews. It’s about helping people SEE the value they bring every day.

When leaders consistently recognize contributions, employees better understand:
✔️ Why their work matters
✔️ How they contribute to success
✔️ That they are valued

And that kind of culture can’t rest on one manager alone. It has to be modeled from the top down and reinforced throughout the organization.

When people feel seen and connected to purpose, engagement and retention follow.

Recognition isn’t fluff.
It’s leadership.

Recognition without accountability creates confusion. Accountability without grace creates turnover.

The best leaders know how to do both. 💙

This week, Jillian and Lorrie are leading sessions on Graceful Accountability — helping leaders create workplace cultures built on trust, communication, and respect.

Because people grow — and stay — in environments where they feel:
✔ valued
✔ supported
✔ heard
✔ accountable

Strong cultures are not built through fear.
They are built through leadership that helps people succeed.

This week, Jillian tasked a group of leaders with illustrating leadership challenges using only visuals—no words allowed. One drawing stood out with a powerful message: every employee is a thread. Leadership is the ongoing work of weaving those threads together into alignment, collaboration, and momentum. But synergy isn’t permanent. Teams shift, priorities change, and the braid can begin to unravel.

Leadership, then, becomes the cycle of reconnecting, realigning, and strengthening those threads again and again.

It was a creative reminder that leadership isn’t about perfection—it’s about persistence, connection, and continuously bringing people together with purpose.

If there was ever a week that deserved the Friends “PIVOT!” meme, this was it. 🛋️

Just before launching a new FCD Career Coach Training cohort, the Canvas platform we planned to use was suddenly unavailable following a cyberattack.

Taylor quickly stepped in, researched alternatives, selected a new platform, and rebuilt the training experience in an incredibly short amount of time — all to make sure the coaches participating in the training experienced a smooth rollout.

Sometimes leadership looks like staying calm, adapting quickly, and figuring it out in real time. Proud of this team and the work happening behind the scenes to support career coaches across Mississippi.

Horizon Point is honored to work with Accelerate MS and the Research & Curriculum Unit at Mississippi State University through GEAR UP in supporting career coaches across Mississippi.

We were grateful for the opportunity to attend and help kick off Career Coach Training alongside so many dedicated professionals committed to making a difference in their schools and communities.

It was an inspiring time of learning, collaboration, and planning for the future. We appreciate the work AccelerateMS and its partners continue to do to invest in students, strengthen career pathways, and support the individuals and communities they serve.

Yesterday, Lorrie spent time with a group of leaders during a DiSC training focused on motivation and engagement.

One participant made a comment that really resonated with the room:

Recognizing one individual or one team, when the success actually came from the effort of many people, can be incredibly demotivating.

That perspective is such an important leadership reminder.

People want to know their work matters. They want to feel seen — especially the contributors behind the scenes who help make success possible.

The strongest teams are built when leaders recognize collaboration, support, consistency, and shared effort… not just visible outcomes.

Who on your team deserves more recognition than they’re currently getting?

🌎 Where in the world was the Horizon Point team yesterday? 👀

📍 Mary Ila was in North Alabama leading an all-day leadership training
📍 Lorrie was in South Alabama at Reid State Community College facilitating a Conflict Management & Title IX workshop in partnership with The University of Alabama
📍 Taylor was in Mississippi attending the MS Horizons Workforce Strategy Symposium hosted by AccelerateMS

Three team members. Three locations. Lots of conversation. ☕🚗

We love getting to support leaders, campuses, and workforce conversations across the Southeast!

Recognition programs aren’t enough on their own.

Too often, they celebrate the work of a few while many employees quietly wonder if their contributions matter.

People don’t feel valued because of one annual award or employee luncheon.

They feel valued in the small moments:
✔ being noticed
✔ receiving meaningful feedback
✔ hearing a timely thank you
✔ feeling seen by leadership

People remember how leaders made them feel.

Recognition that improves retention is:
→ authentic
→ specific
→ timely

Small moments shape workplace culture more than organizations realize.

Watch the linked video The Power of Moments for more insights on creating meaningful moments that matter. Link in bio.
