Just Busy or Busy Building: Which One Are You?
This topic came up in a question presented by one of the registrants of my “CEO You Are Called To Be™” Masterclasses.
Ladies, can you confidently identify when you're focused on revenue-generating activities instead of getting lost in busy work?
The defining difference between an overwhelmed business owner and an effective CEO is simple but critical:
An effective CEO focuses intentionally on activities that drive real results, not just those that fill the calendar. It’s about discerning which actions create meaningful progress and having the discipline to prioritize them above mere busyness.
Many women entrepreneurs spend large amounts of time on:
• Reacting to problems.
• Administrative tasks.
• Churning out constant content.
• Over-perfecting minor details.
• Trying to help everyone.
• Tackling tasks that feel productive but do not contribute to revenue, capacity, or strategic growth
While these activities may seem necessary, they rarely move the needle on true business growth. The difference between staying busy and leading with impact is learning to invest your energy where it matters most.
As Women of Faith in the Marketplace, we must first seek to be in constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit as He guides us throughout the day. (John 15: 26 AMP states “26 “But when the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of Truth who comes from the Father, He will testify and bear witness about Me.”) With God’s internal guidance, we must allow Him to order our steps daily by beginning our day with prayer, asking for His assistance as our Helper, and making sure everything we do is intentional.
Each day, ask yourself: "Does this activity directly support revenue, strategic growth, leadership capacity, or long-term business stability?" If the answer is no, take a moment to pause and reassess. Is this merely a distraction, or could it be delegated or systematized? Don’t allow non-essential tasks to drain your valuable leadership energy. The most effective CEOs fiercely protect their focus and invest it in what truly drives results.
Even God’s Word offers direction to make us more effective leaders and business owners.
Prioritize What Matters Most (Luke 10:41–42).
 Work with Intentionality (Ephesians 5:15–16).
Focus on the Assignment (Nehemiah 6:3).
